I believe I did this last year... what have been the three most influential, memorable, etc etc news stories for you, personally of 2011? What has been particularly impactful for you? What, if anything, changed your life? What shaped 2011?
Pour moi...
3. Death of Osama bin Laden. Only took about ten years. Unfortunately it's rather miniscule in comparison to the big picture, but I understand what it implies for many people symbolically.
2. Occupy Wall St. While I take issue with the fact that I've found a number of people don't really know or understand what they are protesting, I believe strongly in the principles of this movement.
1. Jack Layton's death. I think only other Canadiens here will understand this. Jack Layton's death from cancer for me was devastating. I've been voting NDP since the day I could vote, and Mr. Layton absolutely made that party. He singlehandedly brought the NDP to official Opposition status - something that's never been done before. He was one of very few genuine politicians, and I honestly don't know how I'll ever vote now that Mr. Layton is gone.
