The Hotel Industry...

I think i've been on that many moons ago in the midst of some soul searching....

Got anything you wish to throw down on this thread and rip apart with a former Hotel Worker ?

I hate Hotels.com. Because everytime someone books with it, this is how check in goes:

Gst - "I was told parking was free."
Me - No, parking is 9.00
Gst - Hotels.com told me parking was free.
Me - Well, they lied.
Gst - But they told me..
Me- They lied.
Gst - But..

Or it happens at check out-

Gst - I didn't know we had to pay for parking.
Me - Well, your initials are right next to the line where you agreed to pay for it.
Gst - Well, I didn't ACTUALLY read it.

I often got the classic

'' I know the owner ''
I remember one guest actually being pals witht he owner and threatened to call him at home because we ran out of Magners. ( why this was my problem i don't know ) but i drew the short straw. When he came off his mobile he was like '' I'd hate to be you ... he's well ****ed off '' my reply was, '' You seem to be under the distinct impression that i actually care ''
Jaw dropped, i walked off.

better one yet, some drunkard tried to fool the young barmaid that he was part of the standards for alcohol and was threatening her with her job. He got about 4 free pints out of it the poor girl was shaking... Until the barman walked in brazzen as anything and said,

'' problem ? ''

gst '' I'm from the alcohol and licensing board your maid is breaking the law ''

BM '' That's enough of your bollocks sir away and enjoy your pint ''

Needless to say despite the 5 stars the hotel had, it was more like a road house in real life.

I actually never get any 'I know the owner' crap from anyone. Maybe it's because the owners so over-the-top anti-social, I dunno. :D

I hate early check-ins too. They just **** my day up beyond repair. I'm on permanent mornings now, I work 7-3 - so I'm SUPPOSED to get off before check-in even starts but half the guests come in so early and it's a pain in the ass. I HATE when people say 'well, I know check in isn't until 4 but I'm wondering if I can get in early anyway'.

And then people who make very specific requests when they check-in on Saturdays or holidays. We're always sold out on Saturdays. If you wanted a balcony room, it's not a good idea to tell me at check-in... on a Saturday because I don't have anything left. And then they get ****ed off at me as if I'm supposed to have known before hand that they were clausterphobic and wanted a balcony room. The earlier you call, the better I can accomidate you. I'd think that was common sense but maybe not.

I was going to throw up a '' public '' picture of my former boss, but i thought i better not seeing i'm currently taking him to court. Ps, how is your night shift team btw, weirdos

My night auditors are an.. interesting bunch.

There was one German kid who was just here over the summer... he's leaving on Thursday to go back to university and he always smelt like he never showered. Mike is one of the other auditors, I like him but he doesn't do alot to help me out with my shifts in the morning. And then there's this other guy who I just found out apparently had gotten arrested or some shizz like that. I wasn't supposed to know about this but my boss gave me the password to the hotel's general email address because he wants me to answer inquiries now and jolly gee, I might have accidently stumbled on something I probably shouldn't have seen. Ooopsies - it's maybe NOT a good idea to connect the inboxes together so even I can see what the managers are sending to each other.

Yup, i've always found night shift to be very.....left of centre.. Maybe your auditors have anxiety issues and din't like helping you out when you're busy... one of the auditors at my work, thought he was dead amazing at everything.... you know the type, never makes a mistake....or so he thinks... would often make sexual slurs and remarks about the receptionists... he was a creep, just like the other folk on the night shift.. a strange lot...
