No one knows for how long it will be going on. It came like a flash flood and it will hopefully not last long.
I want to thank everyone for ignoring the spam threads, that makes it easier for the staff to deal with it. As LFF explained earlier, it is more work for us to deal with reports because each report is a process that takes a few steps. And it only takes us two clicks to ban a spammer and erase all his user tracks here once we are inside the thread.
But if you see spam that we have missed and is left behind after we have cleaned up - probably in one of the less busy forums - then by all means please report it. (And always report spam on profile pages or PM spam.)
Everyone in the staff team works hard to keep the place clean and I thank you for being patient. I alone have disabled around 300 spam accounts over the last two days and I have spent nearly all my time on it. The single worst spambot I detected, have created 25 accounts here so far and it keeps coming back. And I keep banning it, usually before it spams. (I'm waiting for Steve to ban its IP, but I know Steve is working as hard as he can, all the sites in the network is having the same problem.) The most labor-intensive work is to identify spam accounts before they spam - we have to be sure it's not a false positive so it takes some work. But I have no life so...
