Resident Evil: Requiem

There’s expectations based on rumours, if Capcom said nothing it wouldn’t be on them if they were fake. But they have, indirectly giving credence to them, effectively making them a valid part of the marketing. It’s a blunder on their part if they’re true, because the way they’ve chosen to present the game conflicts with them.

There’ll be discussions internally about it, likely why they’ve refused to comment since the reveal. Maybe Nakanishi thinks he’s Kojima, but if they show Leon more prominently later (as Dusk is saying) and be more transparent there’s still gonna be distrust. It’s a slippery slope, unlike Kojima Capcom are not savvy enough for this.

They've never had to be savvy enough for this. You can thank journalists for this fiasco, they've turned a normal development/marketing process into PR nightmare for them. Looks like Capcom may have to hire experts who know how to handle this kind of thing in the future.
 
"New" "trailer dropped. And by that I mean showing 80% of footage we've already seen, and having 5% of the "gameplay" trailer consist of gameplay that we've already seen.

This was easily the most underwhelming trailer for this game so far.

 
I don’t think it’s just setting false expectations they’re concerned about, I think Capcom also might be worried about the bulk of the game being overshadowed by that one short playable section, which is probably all Leon’s part is, if anything. They know if they reveal Leon, that’s all/mostly anybody will be talking about. They surely don’t want the 5% being glossed over the meat of the game.
 
Dusk said Leon’s part encompasses the majority of the game though. I can’t see them only making him playable for a short section, he’s too popular of a character. Before the RE4 remake they might’ve been okay with him in a secondary role, but Capcom LOVE to appease new fans and that will have brought the most of the latest games.
 
I feel like bait/switching Grace for Leon would be the definition of false expectations. Everything we've seen so far has been about Grace and the Outbreak tie in. If they continue to hide their "super top secret returning character" and those sections and then the game releases and Leon overshadows everything we've been shown, that would honestly be a big letdown for me.

I don't mind the trailers we've been shown so far, it's still pretty early as far as promotion goes and they have time. However if they're continually covering the same Grace section, not out of fear of leaking too much, but because it's really not that big at all, that would be super disappointing.
 
I don't think there's any bait and switching going on with the characters. There's obviously going to be more to the game than just Leon being in it, and that's ultimately what they're hiding which is why they’ve been focusing on the same early game section that's very basic standard stuff for Resident Evil.

So far, they've highlighted improvements and innovations to things we're already familiar with while showcasing a new protagonist. The next phase of marketing is likely going to be the inverse of that, showcasing new stuff for the series with an old protagonist. They're trying to keep everyone happy in some form so people aren't just fixated on the new stuff they don't like or complaining about them going back to the same old stuff after 7 and Village.

100%. It’s not just that either, it will break a certain level of trust Capcom have with the fans in future. People will be sceptical about their future announcements and press information.

They can have Leon involved no problems, there can be a trailer that reveals his involvement, but Dusk isn’t saying Leon is merely involved, he’s saying he is a main protagonist and that we control him for the majority of the game.

Frankly, hoping very strongly that Leon is just in it for a single sequence. Once again, want to see that egg on his face.
 
I’m having some hilarious flashbacks to the last time eggs were talked about here, but it’s about 30 mins until the panel. This could be it boys. Is it time? Is it the big Leon mic drop?

They were never gonna give a big reveal for a show hardly anybody streams or even knows about. My guess is they’ll give that big mic drop reveal for TGA, if anything since that’s right around the time pre-orders go live and is close to release.

Pick an obsession. First it was China, now it's Dusk Golem. You're so desperate to make enemies on this forum over video game bullsh*t like your livelihood is being threatened. It's pathetic. I can only assume the guy is banging your mom or something because this sure is personal to you.

Had the same thought, co-conspirator! Geoff Keighley clearly has special dibs on this game's marketing having revealed the game and its gameplay at 2 of his events. No doubt such a big reveal will happen under another one of his events that'll have the most eyes on it as opposed to a random State of Play or TGS.
 
Yeah definitely, TGA is when they will completely usurp Grace and reveal Leon, finally, as the main protagonist. It’s genius marketing when you think about it.

Seems like you're leaving out a lot of information there. The dude has tweeted a bunch about the game and has said a lot regarding the protagonists. I don't know where you're getting that Grace is somehow going to be pushed aside in favor of Leon.

Dusk said Leon is the main character (and he’s in the first trailer). Also, we play as him "far more than Grace", he said. This means the trailers and interviews portraying Grace as the protagonist is all misdirection. They just want us to think Grace is the protagonist, but really, it’s Leon, as Dusk said. And Grace’s role will be far less than his.

Based on this, if we play as him for most of the game, as Dusk said, then Grace will naturally be sidelined. And if Leon is revealed at TGA, it’s only natural that people anticipating it will be far more interested in his role than Grace’s. Not saying you will, but plenty will.
