Regarding Signatures

This goes out to the staff specifically, but I would like to hear others thoughts on this as well.

I wanted to know, when will this site incorporate a new rule regarding Signatures?

I have already read this topic http://residentevilnews.com/community/threads/signatures.3380/

But there still is no clear sig limit to be seen and lately I have been noticing some pretty big signatures that really do make browsing the forum on your phone a complete pain in the ass.

Thoughts?

I could be wrong but, aren't signatures removed by the staff automatically if too large?

supposedly yes.

But IMO the staff have been neglecting to do so or they simply have not noticed it since obviously a lot of these sigs around here are pretty big.

This site needs a definite sig limit otherwise its going to make it harder for others to browse it.

Well, going off Tremor's signature as the example given in the admin post, I'd say somewhere around 400 or 500 pixels is the limit for the signature height - as the text counts as well - and I'm sure the mods and admins will do something about the signatures that are too large. (This surge in large signatures has been very recent and everyone has real life to attend to.) If this is such a problem for you, until everyone has had the chance to get online and do something about it, I would suggest disabling everyone's signatures for phone browsing.

The thing is it is not a problem for me.

But I know others who use phones to browse forums and it becomes a issue for them due to those large sigs.

Its not a pressing matter really, I know staff have a life outside the internet as do I, but I only made this topic to bring it to their attention, that is if they already do not know about this recent surge of large signatures.

I have signatures disabled so I've not been seeing anything - but disabling it temporarily means I can see sigs are getting way too big. Rather than have to ask everyone individually if they wouldn't mind doing something about it, or spending large amounts of time editing sigs myself, I may have to just remove overly-large sigs.

Not trying to be a nazi or whatever else - but when you're on a slow connection, you have limited bandwidth or you just don't want to have your page go on forever before you get to a post, enormous sigs can be a problem. Yes, people can disable the whatsit that lets them see them, but from our end the sigs still appear as eating away at our resources.

tl;dr - if you have a favourite sig, save now because I'll be having to delete them shortly :)

Angel, would you remove my sig, please?
It's been overeating and I don't have the manners to tell it that it's too fat to stay in my posts and that it has to either diet or start exercising. Thanks. :D

If you're serious, you can remove your own sig ;)

It's not too big - it's about the same as mine I would have said.

so is there any chance for a sig limit here?

Or are you just going to continue just removing them as they come?

Well, I removed my gif as I know it can be a pain sometimes when browsing, but Tremor made me this sig and I know it's the right size so I'll be keeping it. ;)
I kind of feel the same lol...Metal made mind...And it's not only mine, but also for those on the site who are part of the Delta Squad of S.T.A.R.S

Yeah I don't think yours is too big imo, it meets its requirements and is the proper size. Plus yours is enjoyable to other members on here ,especially the ones on your team and thanks for including me btw. :D

Lol...What can I say, I could only include the coolest cats on the web...Although, I DO wish there were more spots...There's people I wanted to add but couldn't because there wasn't enough room...

Oi, behave :p

Ok, so if you want size limits then I guess I can give you some although I was hoping to never have to do that here. Sig limits was something we imposed on DMC because so many people there used their sig section as a parade ground for about a bajillion images and it was getting silly. The backlash when we started imposing limits was crazy too...but I digress.

Based on what we have on DMC.org (which is, naturally, ignored almost all the time) I would say the ideal is the following:

Your entire signature, including images, text and links, must be no larger than 200 pixels high and 500 pixels wide.

Hopefully that gives some sort of clarity for you guys - obviously the odd slight increase in pixel size is nothing to get uptight about but if sigs are clearly getting too large, they will have to either be edited or resized.

Just please remember that if you see sig that's too massive and it appears no one is doing anything about it, either be patient, get in touch with one of us or, if you can be polite about it, just let the member know to save them the embarrassment of having their sig removed by a staff member. Be particularly nice with new people who may not be familiar with our limits too, please ;)

Don't mind me, i'm just posting this to remind myself of what SIG i have.

Cool.

Only Administrators can. On the old forum software we were Super Moderators and we could do a whole lot, but on this new software the moderators are almost powerless. We can no more edit signatures or avatars, we can only moderate posts/threads, and ban.

We can of course ask/tell people to reduce their sigs and hope that they will come online soon and do it. Luckily people do follow orders and we don't need to do more than asking them, but I get tired of asking people to reduce their sigs. And I have also believed that I was pretty much the only one who had a problem with large sigs (and animated sigs) because it seems that "everyone" are having big sigs. So instead of making an issue of it I have had sigs disabled from my view, but lately I've enabled them and I right click big images and add them to my ad filter so I don't see much.

If people want stricter signature rules I welcome that very much.

So when will this new sig limit go into play?

Its been a day now and I'm still seeing some big sigs around here so just wondering how long it will take.

Patience is a virtue and, as mentioned before, people do have lives that don't revolve around this site. Romero has just explained that Angel and Steve are the only ones who can delete signatures; Steve has, not only this site, but at least three others to maintain and Angel has small children to take care of, they can't be here 24/7, patrolling with the sole intent to delete signatures that are too large. Right now, with the new signature rule demand, they're dealing with messaging warnings to the rule offenders and waiting until they return to the site to deal with the problem.

Rome wasn't built in a day so stay true to your user name and chill.

*sigh*

I was only asking a simple question.

I was not rushing them or anything like that and I am sorry if you honestly feel that I am.

Just was asking how long do they think it will be before they feel like enforcing the sig limit thats all.

Like I said earlier, I know full well people have lives outside this and I would really appreciate it if you would not keep reminding me of something i already know, But that doesn't not mean that I have no right to ask them about them doing something.

This is actually my first time asking them about a time period for the sig limit so I would appreciate it if you did not make it seem as if I am just spamming them daily about getting this sig limit up and running.
