RE:GEO.

The Confucius of ReNews...Cheers KK.
I haven't watched National Geographic since it turned into '' NAT GEO '' simply because i think it strikes me as the school nerd trying to be gangster. But i suppose everyone is allowed a life crisis and image melt down from time to time.

As nat geo and the History channel blow, i propose this,

RE:GEO, oh yes, our very own history love fest.

You can post anything from your fave people, event, or thing from the vaults of time. Or simply things that hold your interest or imagination.

for me, it's the Picts.

A mystical and brutal people who's mark still haunts Scotland to this day, and although there isn't much info on them, the stone work and tools they left behind, along with what they lived and died for, leaves you with the realization that they were a people at 1 with the world, who struggled to keep the new world from poisoning the well.

I have little time to type anything more but Wiki/picts is a good starter for those interested.

So, get posting, who or what is a part of history you always raise a brow to?

One person that has fascinated me for a while now is Oskar Schindler. It blows my mind that in the beginning he was a 'ruthless' businessman and member of the Nazi party who profitted greatly from Jewish slave labour, only to be one of very few people whose humanity actually rose above the occasion. He rescued over 1,200 people through bribing Nazi officials and he eventually went dirt broke in the process. It's the whole concept that he WASN'T the perfect hero from the get-go that impresses me most about him.

What did you expect me to post? The empire state building? :p Hell, we still have some culture left of our own - for now at least.. *continues eating hamburger*

Anyway, the Parthenon was built around 400 B.C It is said that there's not a single straight line in it and that if you were to extend its pillars the structure would take a pyramid-like shape. Really, how did they do that back then?

When it comes to people the one that is currently getting my attention is Stephen Hawking. What can you say about this man? He is the proof that psychological health is more important than physical health if you want to do something great with your life.

Ancient Egypt has and always will be a love of mine. I've always felt..."in tune" with it, if that makes any sense. Mostly, it's the culture and the architecture that interest me the most. But I have a special love for Queen Hatshepsut and King Tutankhamun. And let's not forget the beautiful Nile River.

The Giants Causeway at Co. Antrim, Ireland. Only been there once but it was amazing to see. It was supposed to have been formed by underground volcanic eruptions about 60 million years ago.

Newgrange at Co. Meath, Ireland. It was built over 5000 years ago. It's basically an ancient temple which was used for ceremonies etc.

Boudicca, the original ( Warrior queen )

boudicca.jpg

I'm always impressed by the endeavors of this fine woman, It shouldn't surprise people that back then, men fought and dieid for a female warrior queen, as the Celtic Culture held Woman as goddesses,so even though it was the norm, it still impresses me that she was able to control all those warriors and inspire them to rebel against one of the most powerful yet often ( over-rated ) empires in history.

Any young ladies around here, nevermind Hannah Montanna, the good queen lady Boudicca is a role model and a half, she's impressive. here is more,

enjoy.

ps, some good replies. :D

Anybody wants to see a living breathing display of humanity at it's worst and best, need not look any further than the story of the Easter island heads.

The rise and fall of the people on said island, is as tragic as it is fascinating.

Unfortunately, you won't find a great deal of decent Doco's on the tv for such a thing without the prgramme, playing a stupid weirdo back track, and bringing up '' alien technology '' every ten minutes. Yes that's right, these days on Nat Geo ( with the baseball cap slanted to the side ) Everything and everyone is an alien. Nazi's were aliens, the mayans were aliens, jesus was an alien and so on and so forth.

So if you'd like to find out more about these wonderful people and their endeavors....

start here,

Look for the easter island link.

enjoy.
