PS3 Help!

Okay, so I've been having some troubles getting online with my PS3. So here's the thing - we have two PS3s altogether.. one of them is fairly new and it had been connected to my television up until about a month ago when my sister took it to college with her. The wireless router has never been in my room and I never had to plug in an ethernet cable to get internet access. I just moved back home from university and brought MY own PS3 from my apartment - however, it's telling me I can't go online without an ethernet cable - but I don't have a router in my room and I'm 'not allowed' to move the other one here.

When I was living on my own my PS3 was connected to a router there, so I'm guessing the settings on this particular PS3 reflect that. How do I change it so I can access the internet without using the ethernet cable? If it was working fine with the other one, I don't see why it can't do the same for this one. Any help is muchly appreciated.

When you try to connect to the network, is it after you click on it that it says you need an ethernet cable or right when you click the connections button it says you need an ethernet cale? If it's the first, I might be able to help. If it's the second, I can't.

I don't see any kind of solution. If there is no router in the your general area (In this case the university that you're at) then you're going to need to a cable. However, you could go to the Network settings and have your PS3 search for a router at the university (Schools, colleges, and universities need routers to get internet) for a wireless connection to a router, if it can't find one at the university then you're going to need a cable, but if does find one try to connect it however I'm not guaranteeing that it would work because the signal may be weak or you're going to have hail trying to connect to PSN.

I'll keep looking for a solution over the internet. If I can find one, I'll let you know.

Oh no, I'm not at university anymore - I'm at home but I can't bring the router any closer because my room doesn't have anywhere to connect it to.

It's before - it was saying right away that I need the ethernet cable. I found out how to change the connection to make it wireless, but it's still not working - it keeps saying it can't recognize the IP address.

Go to the router settings page and check if UPnP is on. It isn't the same on all routers, so look up how to get to the router settings page and enable UPnP for your router brand.

Oh I read it wrong. I'll still try to get to go to wireless connection and have your PS3 automatically search for the router. I'll try looking up another solution tomorrow.

Well I know for my ps3, I had to manually enter the ip address of the wireless router to get it working. The auto search didn't work for me. You could try that if you still can't get it working.
