Nintendo. All Ages, Or Kids Only?

What do you guys think...I mean, you hear ALL the time how Nintendo is just for little kids...But I disagree...I'm nearly Eighteen and I LOVE Nintendo...Much more than Sony of Microsoft...

They were the first to REALLY do the console gaming thing, and now, thirty years later, their the only ones who are still going at it that was around in that era...Atari seldom makes a game, though it does happen...NEVER a system though...And Sega was bought out BY Nintendo after the Dreamcast/N64 era...So now Nintendo is STILL selling, even with new competitors Sony and Microsoft...

Nintendo has ALWAYS stayed true to its fans...And has such iconic characters as Mario, Link, Kirby, and Pikachu STILL giving games like CoD and Mass Effect a run for their money...

What do you think...Should people graduate from Nintendo and realize that real gaming begins with hard hitting games with gore and cursing, or is Nintendo JUST as hardcore as Sony and Microsoft games...

I'll admit I get a little ticked off when gamers start going on about what is "hardcore" or not. To me, it is akin to all that "true fan" nonsense - especially the elitist nonsense that comes with it from those who consider themselves to be "hardcore gamers". Real gaming is ANY sort of video gaming. Just because it's not on a PS3 or whatever does not make it any less of a video gaming experience.

As much flak as Nintendo have had from some gamers in terms of being too family-orientated or vanilla in the games it makes/supports, Sony and Microsoft were quick to jump on the whole "let's make motion gaming even better" bandwagon once they saw how much the Wii had advanced that sort of thing. To my mind, Nintendo saw a niche in the market, a demographic that was not being adequately tapped and nailed it before anyone else even realised it was a viable option. Sony and MS focus too much on the more traditional gaming culture whereas Nintendo had the balls to include more girls, old ladies and little kids. I'm not saying girls didn't game before the Wii and DS but you have to admit even more girls are into it now thanks to titles that don't even lend themselves to the more stereotypical way of viewing gaming. My sister, for example, will express her derision for all things gaming and yet she'll play Mario Party or Disney Trivial Pursuit until her face falls off without realising that it's actually the same thing. It's gaming. Ok, so it's not punching rocks a la Redfield or whatever but it is a video game and therefore comes under the umbrella (corporation - LOL!) of being a gamer.

Why should people even "graduate" from Nintendo as if it were some kindergarten of gaming? It has its own strengths which the other two major players could never manage as well and I don't believe it's a sign of immaturity to stick with Nintendo over MS and Sony. Rather, it can be construed as a sign of the gaming enthusiast; someone who appreciates and enjoys a wider range of gaming and consoles, regardless of how many times they may say the word "f**k". Nintendo have managed to make something for almost everyone and that's actually a rather impressive accomplishment when you consider how the wider world still views those who play video games. Nintendo have also, with their family-friendly style, encouraged parents to spend more time getting into what their kids are into without necessarily realising that it's happening.

Nintendo has just as much a valid place in the gaming world as its counterparts and people need to realise that to play on any of the consoles available does not tie you into a particular "type" of gamer; the only people who believe in that sort of thing are those who are too insecure to admit they like playing games that aren't always about eviscerating enemies and wearing their skins as trophies.

I've always seen Nintendo as ( game / fun ) based. Whereas Playstation et al, went all '' grown up '' ( dis is how we roll now )

Play station was great, but i find myself wanting to return to the madness of Mario and the likes. Games should be slap and tickle, not full on special effects porn. Grand theft Auto San Andreas, to me, was the last greatest thing Play station ever housed, everything else has been beefed up nonsense trying to be too real.

But listen, whenever myself and my mates want to play a console for fun whilst on the drink... Nintendo wins. Dodging massive bullets and crashing your go-kart after running over a banana is some weird ****.

Plus, there is NO better party game then the Super Smash Bros. games...Those get f**kin CRAZY when drinking...

Nursery homes for elder people in Norway are buying Wii for the elders. They are OLD. You don't "graduate" from Nintendo, at least not here in the mundane world.

Were all barbaric gamers at heart :p I dont think it could said any better.

I'll try not to paraphrase Angel or atleast minimise it because i totally agree. I think the Wii just simply chose to be more group and activity oriented. Which in and of itself isnt age related. If i had more friends and more money and physical space in my room i would totally get a Wii and play the sh*t out of it. The 'hardcore gamers' are the ones who by nature want to bleed to death and miraculously be recovered by a mystical herbal capsule implanted by themselves 3 months prior...metaphorically speaking. They generally dont see games with 'fun' attached to the title as any fun. Even though i own a ps3 and i may downplay other systems only because i want more online friends to play with lol it has very little to do with my affinity for ps3...theres lots to love and hate. As with any other system. I would never deem another system unworthy because i think the games are 'childish' which there not...but childish is a subjective term anyway.

Elderly homes in Cornwall have had them for ages...
What bugged me about the whole thing was that idiots saw gaming as corruptable, time wasting nonsense... NOW, they've got them in these sorts of places.

I always noticed a trend back in school, you either had a PS or an Xbox, but there would also be a ninty console too. :P

I've got a Wii, but the controllers 'eat'/drain batteries like Mario eats mushrooms... I'm sure there are plenty of decent games out there, but none of them are to my taste. IMO GAMECUBE FTW!

I think gamecube could hold its own with the consoles out today no problem if they made it mainstream again

The people who say that are the ones who buy every copy of Call of Duty that comes out and then defend that game with there life or they don't have souls.

I wouldn't say nintendo is just for kids. If you look at some of the games on 3DS & Wii, the likes of Metal Gear Solid & Resident Evil. But my favourites are Super Mario Galaxy 2 & Super Mario 3D Land :)
