Nice change (with a drawback)

I see the forums are re-arranged, and it looks better now when RE5 is not alone in Umbrella HQ. :)

But Resident Evil is now mixed with Resident Evil Zero. As they are two separate games, isn't it better to keep them separated? I'm sorry to say it, but I think it's a mess in there now. :(

Also Feedback and Suggestions was mixed with General Discussion a while back. Now the feedback is "drowned" in all the general discussion topics, but if that's how Steve likes it...
I hope you have time to look at every thread in General Discussion, Steve. If feedback threads passes unnoticed we'll have to dump our feedback on your profile. ;)

If your reason to merge forums was to make the main forum page look tidier, maybe I can suggest another way? -What about sub-forums?

Because the RE5 forum is the most popular, would it perhaps be better to reverse the order and put the RE5 forum on top?

Is anyone agreeing or disagreeing with me? Any ideas out there?

I have to agree with that. I know that the RE zero forum had the least threads of all the RE games, but the RE 1 forum didn't even come second place! I mean it had already been a mixture of three games(RE original, RE director's cut and RE REmake) which made it more popular than RE2, RE3 and RECV.

Mixing RE zero with RECV(which is the second least popular forum i think) wouldn't be a good idea either because they are chronologically different.

Edited: LoL Romero!! "Nice change"? I found three things in your post that you didn't like! Man you would do one hell of a diplomat!!

Every time I signed onto the forum in the past, I couldn't help but feel sad for that poor RE5 forum being all by itself.

But Resident Evil is now mixed with Resident Evil Zero. As they are two separate games, isn't it better to keep them separated? I'm sorry to say it, but I think it's a mess in there now. :(
They were indeed combined primarily as a means to reduce the clutter. I'm interested in adding more forums (such as Darkside Chronicles and a few others) and I know it's going to get pretty cramped in there eventually.

I was really against merging 'em at first but now I'm kind of neutral; I see RE and RE0 as two peas in a pod and have the most in common of all the RE games and would be the two most ideal forums to combine into a single one. If you guys prefer I can reverse it and revert 'em back to a two forum set-up.

Also Feedback and Suggestions was mixed with General Discussion a while back. Now the feedback is "drowned" in all the general discussion topics, but if that's how Steve likes it...
The two forums were combined in order for all feedback to be discussed by a larger audience. It's a shame that on every forum I'm involved in that a lot of people overlook the Feedback forums because they're, well, I guess they're just dull for some people. When people do post feedback, however, only a handful of people actually end up reading it because it's posted in a forum which is generally overlooked. I basically made it so that Feedback could be posted in General Discussion so that more people would post and share their feedback with more people.

Hope I worded that alright. I'm in the middle of a RE Versus match and my wits aren't quite with me at the moment... :P

You, sir, have given me an idea. Hehe...

Sub-forums are something that I used plenty of in a few other forums of mine but they turned out to prove even less popular. :(

I think the only thing less popular than a Feedback forum is a sub-forum.

Exactly as I have been thinking these past few days. I reckon it might be best to order it in reverse too.

Is anyone agreeing or disagreeing with me? Any ideas out there?
I agree with pretty much all of your ideas! I'll try and respond a little later when I'm free and further elaborate why some of 'em just aren't really do-able in this instance. A few ideas I'd love to incorporate tonight if there's time!

Apologies if anything was explained poorly!

Nice format going on, but I just disagree on the RE 0 and RE combined together. Other than that, nicely done Steve-o! :)

I do admit that subforums do not get much recognition as the larger forums do. (Experience in working with forums).

However, the suggestions/general discussion will do nicely, except it'll be cluttered together.

RE UC/DC should have it's own together as well like RE0/RE :)

You could create sections for the Chronicles, Outbreak and Survivor series (not the individual games). Games such as Gaiden, mobile games, etc are not worth of a section, they can be in the RE General Discussion.
You could also open a section for the novels/comics, but i doubt it would get many visitors.

I actually think that RE2 and 3 have more in common than RE0 and 1.:ermm:

Anyway, the forums are looking great, so congratulation for the work until now;).

Thank you, that's how I earn my diplomatic immunity here!:p

The two forums were combined in order for all feedback to be discussed by a larger audience. It's a shame that on every forum I'm involved in that a lot of people overlook the Feedback forums because they're, well, I guess they're just dull for some people. This is a dilemma. The feedback will either be partly ignored in its own forum, or it will partly drown in general topics.

The feedback is where we can have our voices heard. I think of it as an essential part of the "democracy" here. If members don't care with participating in the "democracy" then they are letting the few who cares have all the say.
It's almost like the real world's democracy; too many don't vote and they let the others decide the outcome at the ballot boxes. We can see it as a problem if only 60% of the electors vote, but that's actually how the democracy works. They who cares decide the outcome. I don't see it as a problem at all.

So if only a few of the members care to discuss feedback topics, what's wrong with that? Everybody knew where the Feedback forum was and it's easy to see if a forum has gotten new posts.

From my point of view feedback and suggestion topics are very important and I wouldn't like to miss one of those topics. I didn't miss them before but now when it's in General Discussion I could actually miss a feedback/suggestion topic by accident.

One reason why the old Feedback & Suggestions pretty much died can be attributed to the fact that you neglected the forum for a long time. I understand the reason for it and I'm not criticising you for it. But feedback discussions seems a bit pointless when there's no admins around. I've had several ideas for new feedback topics but didn't post them for this reason.

Some forums have little activity, but I don't think it's a good idea to merge them. Members interested in a particular topic knows/knew where to find it.

Sub-forums are something that I used plenty of in a few other forums of mine but they turned out to prove even less popular. :(

I think the only thing less popular than a Feedback forum is a sub-forum.
Most boards have sub-forums and the sub-forums are often the ones with little activity. But the low activity is not necessarily because they are sub-forums, I rather think that they are sub-forums because they get little attention. The members that are interested in those topics finds them.

I agree with pretty much all of your ideas! I'll try and respond a little later when I'm free and further elaborate why some of 'em just aren't really do-able in this instance. A few ideas I'd love to incorporate tonight if there's time!

I'm very pleased to hear that!
I don't think you explained anything poorly. And your handwriting caused me no problems!

All long things must come to an end, so also a long post.

Not all of my opinions are based on logic; some are, and the rest are based on experience. And I know that I have not experienced all there is to experience which means I could actually be wrong sometimes.

Some great points, Romero! I'll be re-reading through your post when the little one has gone to bed (I'm typing with one hand with patting his back and trying to send him to sleep with the other hand ^_^) but I'm definitely now in agreement with you about the separating of the General Discussion/Feedback forum and the RE1/RE0 forum. It's much more tedious breaking the forums into two but I guess I made the work for myself. :p

I'll try and respond again later on when there aren't so many distractions... distracting me with distractions. :ninja:

:p

Thanks Steve. :)

I'm excited to see new forums. I'm not very interested in those games but I look forward to the new forums anyway, out of plain curiousity. :D

I don't know how you plan to do it, but I believe it would be worth creating a new section for them. Many members don't have those games and I believe I'm not the only one who would like to have them in a separate section that can be collapsed.

I don't know how obvious it was to everyone, but at the end of my last post I was just trying to sound funny. :p

Lol! I though it was part of your signature or something! So i didn't even bother reading it!

Sorry about the late response, folks! I haven't forgotten about this thread and I'm still eager to separate those forums. I've just been playing a ton of RE5 recently and spent most of yesterday putting a guide together for the Score Star locations.

I think the forum looks AMAZING and the activity is great! I totally forgot I was even a member here so I was going to sign up again and thought 'finally, an active RE forum!'

I've posted on a number of other RE forums (mostly REFan) and they are pretty much all dead so this is great what we've got going here.

At REFan, I've answered threads, didn't log in for days, and my name was still at the top of the list as the last person to post. Boring :/

I hate my name, though, and hope the admins log in soon to get my request, lol. 1996-2007 was my big FOREST IS THE BEST EVER phase. I still like him but the username is dumb.

@Jade: Good to have you back! REFan is a fantastic Resident Evil website and definitely up there as being one of my favourite; very inspirational and chock-full of great Resi info. =]

What would you like your username to be changed to? Send me a visitor message with your desired username and I'll update your account for you.

I just want to say I like your name, Jade. :)
What are you talking about - "big forest" phase?? Is it something that is connected with your current name?

Be careful Steve, you could get banned for advertising! But maybe you get away with it since you didn't post it as a link? :p

Thank you, Jade is my real name so it is okay if people want to call me that, no matter what my username is!

The Speyer part of my username is Forest Speyer's last name (the guy who was pecked by crows). Oddly enough, he is my favourite character (besides Chris). I don't know why, I just always thought he looked cool and would have been an awesome playable character.
