Microsoft Word help!

So I'm having a bit of an issue.. I have two documents which I need to merge together into one file.. but both documents have completely different formatting and simply copying and pasting one of them into the other isn't working because the text just goes side by side or overlaps and it's a nightmare. Does anyone know how to merge two documents without changing the layout of either file?

There's like this thing that should pop up saying "Keep Source Formatting." It's a little box at the end/beginning of the pasted text. Open it and click something else that I forget but it's really really obvious which one it is.
