MGS 5 WAS ANNOUCED!!!

Snake is not dead
He only had a few months to live after MGS4.
He's dead in Rising.

Big Boss is the new face of the Metal Gear series, which I have mixed feelings about, considering his obnoxious fanbase, but at least MGS3 and Peace Walker were fun (and the new one looks great too)!

What MGS would you guys recommend for me to get in to?
I recommend playing Metal Gear Solid 3, and then Peace Walker. If you get the HD collection, that will get you everything except MGS1 and Portable Ops. MGS1 was godly, but you will have the ability to live without it. The story is highlighted throughout 2. When you play 2 and 3, I recommend getting Portable Ops. Some references from 2 are in there, so I see it as necessary. All in all, 3 and Peace Walker are the best.

360 right?

The HD Collection was released on both 360 and PS3, but the original Metal Gear Solid is available only from the PSN Store. It is not on Xbox 360.
awww. is the first on original xbox
Or PS2?

MGS3 was my introduction to the series, and it's a prequel, so it's the perfect start in my opinion.

Just don't forget the MSX games (or else you're going to be wondering "what the hell is this 'Outer Heaven' and 'Zanzibar' stuff these people keep talking about?"). Or become another Big Boss fanboy (they're like MGS' version of Leon fanboys.)

Edit: Also, this is going to sound weird, but I actually don't recommend playing Peace Walker right after playing MGS3. Play MGS1 (through emulation, I guess, or do you have a PS1/2 lying around somewhere) and MGS2 first, then play Peace Walker (it's hard to explain why without spoiling stuff.) Then, steal a PS3 and play MGS4 (take your tiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiime and be sneeeeeeeeeeeeeakyyyyyyyyyyyyy.)

Pfft. Taking your time? Big Boss ranking in MGS3 requires like 2 hours of playtime and not getting caught once. Kill every animal, throw the food as distractions, and run. That's the best way to run through MGS3. MGS2 is tougher, as it's more confined, but it's still just a matter of throwing empty magazines and using chaff grenades. Considering you brought that up for MGS4, I can't speak for it, but I'm almost positive the Big Boss requirements are very similar.

mgs4
at least you didnt beat big boss difficulty before the trophies came out and the game dosent count the fact that you beat it so you dont get any trophies for doing all the stuff

also the hardest part of mgs4 big boss mode for me was the beginning until you got your guns and the final vamp fight

Pfft. If you need your guns to beat Metal Gear, you don't know how to play. I beat The Boss in MGS3 with CQC, Fear and End with the knife, and barely fired a shot outside of the car chase scene and Shagohod. But yeah, even the car chase scene was tough. I ran out of tranquilizer rounds half way in, and was way too lazy to start firing the Mosin Nagant. Curse you, 0 kill count! Though it is entirely true I have not played MGS4.

What are you talking about? Who the hell would go for these ranks on their initial playthrough? I simply told the guy to not shoot everyone in MGS4.

Please, I got Bat on my first playthrough in MGS3. 0 alert modes on normal. I did require a few continues though, if I remember it was 5-10. My third playthrough was Big Boss or the equivalent in MGS3. It was Foxhound or something. You just have to remember EVERYTHING. If anyone recommends doing the highest rank, I'd recommend running through Fox once on extreme. It's good training.

"I did all this cool stuff on my first playthrough of MGS3."
"I did it by remembering everything about the game."

Like I said, take your time, watch the cutscenes, and enjoy. Then go for all the cool ranks later.
