When did I say I do?

See that's the thing. THe core members. WHen I think of the Core members, I always think of Cap, Thor, Iron Man, Hawkeye, and Vision. As long as I've been reading comics, I've actually always considered Vision a core member over Hulk. But for the sake of the movie, I'll admit Hulk was the better choice.Nah I was cool with Vision and Ms. Marvel not being in the first film. I even was okay with Ant-Man and Wasp not being there (Though Wasp was in Whedons original script). Because the first film really had to establish that team and its core members first and if you have too many characters that you need to deal with then this can seriously derail the film and result in several characters getting the short straw (Just look at some of the X-Men films). Its a really fine line to walk. I think Joss did a great job in portraying each of the core members in the first one and give them their moments to shine as characters and heroes. But if there had been another 2 or 3 characters in that film then this would have hurt the movie. I think the way Joss did that was well balanced. I get that the fans want to see their favorite characters and so of course the Wasp or Vision fans were disappointed but if they had been in the first film then I dont think the movie would have been able to do these characters justice.
I mean there are so many characters that people want to see in there...Ant-Man, Wasp, Ms.Marvel, Vision, Black Panther, she-Hulk etc. if Whedon would put every character in there that fans want to see the movie becomes a disaster. I think the cast for the first one was very well chosen and balanced.
For the 2nd movie they can now expand with a couple of more characters who wouldnt have been done justice in the first one (if they had been there). Also there are stories behind these new characters that need to be done justice and since neither of these new characters appeared in previous films their stories will need to be told in Avengers. And thats why their inclusion in the first film was pretty much impossible since they already had so much to deal with and establish in that one. But now they have the core team and have developed them further in the solo movies and can now focus on new characters and do them justice. I think they are doing this just the right way.
Oh I forgot: James Rhodes/Iron Patriot (played by Don Cheadle) will also appear in the movie. I could imagine that the government sends him to Tony to convince him to return as Iron Man to the Avengers (Since Tony retired from being Iron Man after Iron Man 3) but of course it would be very cool if we would get to see Iron Man and Iron Patriot fighting side by side like they did in Iron Man 2. Thats something we unfortunately didnt really get to see in Iron Man 3.
I completely forgot about Black Panther...Now THAT would be a kickass movie...yeah Hulk was the much better choice. he was THE star of the movie. I remember when the movie opened, the first reactions were all like "Hulk is the fricking best". Thanks to Mark Ruffalos portrayal and the Hulks action and dynamic within the film (I think Hulk works far better in a team movie then in a solo movie which is probably why they only feature him in the Avengers films now) he was a damn rockstar. And that "I´m always angry" moment is probably one of my most favorite superheromovie moments of all time. I fricking cheered in the theater.
But Hulk was actually a founding member of the Avengers while Vision was not. And they had already established Hulk in a movie in the MCU and obviously he is one of the most iconic Marvel characters (much more then Vision. There are enough people who know Hulk but have never heard of Vision). And where would Vision suddenly have come from? It wouldnt have made sense. All the characters had already been featured in previous films (though Hawkeye admittedly only in a cameo) so it made perfect sense to me that this was the core cast instead of suddenly having Vision or Hank Pym show up. That would have been odd. It just wouldnt have worked as well as it did with the characters they used.
In the comics the founding members of the Avengers were Cap, Thor, Iron Man, Hulk, Wasp and Ant-Man. and they replaced Wasp and Ant-Man with Black Widow and Hawkeye which I think was a good choice (They were already established and with Hank and Janet you would have to go through their backstory and origin story first, which they are going to do now with the Ant-Man movie. Also with Natasha and Clint both being SHIELD agents it made more sense for the story of the movie to have them in there)
Vision, Carol, Black Panther, Pietro, Wanda and all of those who are regular members for decades in the comics now and would be considerd core members were not core members at the beginning of the Avengers. So Hulk is certainly much more a core member (not to mention audience magnet) then Vision. So I think they did that just right and now in the 2nd film they can start bringing in some of the later regulars.
