Lord of the Rings!

Omigosh I love the whole thing soooooooooooo much. The Hobbit was read to me by my father when I was a child and I remember trying to read the LOTR books but getting hopelessly bogged down with all the wordiness of it. So I never thought about it again until I saw the films and then I read the books and, quite honestly, I have never grown tired of the entire franchise ever since.

I think my intense love of the fantasy genre helps and my imagination for writing is sparked every time I watch the films or read the books. I swear I was born in the wrong era - the whole cloak-wearing, basket-carrying, adventuring, simple life stuff just appeals to me so much. But if I start dressing like an elf around here, I'll get my head kicked in :(

My favourite character is Aragorn but not just for the obvious reasons but also because everything about him is awesome. I also really like Gollum - I found him quite scary in the Hobbit when I was little but now I think he's amusing, sad and still a little frightening. The noise he makes in the films is nothing like the sound I thought he'd make. My dad used to do sound effects with the Hobbit and it was more of a gulping/swallowing noise than that weird cough he does in the movies.

I can't pick a favourite from the films - all of them are just brilliant. I don't care that there has been a degree of artistic licence taken with them - I think it would be impossible to do hem spot-on with the stories and I love how you can make your own interpretations of them. I know that Tolkien was not a fan of allegory and as such, there is nothing allegorical about any of the books but still, you can draw so many parallels if you wish to.

As for the Hobbit I think I might vomit with excitement when I see it. It's rare I go to the cinema to see anything as time, children and the fact that our nearest one is 9 miles away gets in the way. But screw the lot of 'em - I'm going to see this one. And if they show it in 3D I'll put on the dumb glasses and watch Smaug try to take my head off. Never been a massive fan of Martin Freeman in films but I hope this proves me wrong completely and given his work as Watson in Sherlock Holmes the TV series, I think he'll do just fine as Bilbo. Shame they couldn't botox the crap out of Ian Holm just for the sake of continuity with the fellowship of the rings but it's going to be fun to see how he's portrayed by someone else. Benedict Cucumberpatch or whatever his name is...well, I've only seen him in two things: Sherlock the series and a drama/biographical film about Stephen Hawkin before he went cyborg. He's rather exceptional in both of them, moreso as Hawkin and he was great in that role so I'm very excited to see him as Smaug. I think he'll make a rather good Smaug as he's got that whole proud, smug thing going on when he acts as Sherlock.

*takes deep breath* I'll word-vomit more later :D

samwise Gamgie is my most favorite character in the lord of the rings series
he once was just a gardner for mr Frodo Baggins but over time he began to discover himself and they made a bond more then friendship but of brothers. also he helped Frodo on his quest to bring the ring to mount doom and without him it is more then likely sauron would have gotten the ring and ruled over middle earth.

Also the mans a legitimate Badass

my favorite movie is The Fellowship of the Ring then The Return of the King then The Two Towers
two towers wasent very interesting to me except for the Helms Deep fight

p.s. Super excited for the hobbit already decided to go to the midnight premire

Each individual film in the trilogy is very high on my list of best films watched, and as a series it is probably on the top of my list.
My most liked characters are Gandalf and Aragorn. But also Arwen and another female whose name escapes me at the moment. My most favorite is still Gandalf because of his powers.

.. or it could be Eowyn, she's not an elf but she was the only other prominent female character in the series. She's always been my favourite character and the character I've most been able to identify with - I obviously have a penchant for females who are a bit balsy, rebellious, and who y'know, fight against societal constructs and all that jazz. I'm just not really thrilled by the actress who plays her in the films. Miranda Otto is so.. bland. Either way I always thought she was more suitable for Aragorn than Arwen but meh.

it didnt really give her justice

The books of The Lord of the Rings are beautiful but I don't like the movies... They don't receive you the message who Tolkien wants to make you understand.

People who read many novels say that the book is almost always better than the film, and I believe it is true, I find it logical. The common advice is to watch the film first and read the book second. :)

Oh god, I just watched the trailer of hobbit... It's going to br epic. We get to see more of Gandalf and the company looks promising!

I'm always fascinated by wizards, so yeah Gandalf all the way.

I honestly must have seen each LotR movies at least five times! Whenever we'd watch a movie in our english class to improve our listening skills we would choose one of them! lol

OK, first, a good music with dedication for La Femme Fatale, thank for create this thread ;)

I read first book from the series when I was 15 years old, it was "Two Towers". I liked it, a fine fantasy story, just OK. But... After that, when I read other two parts, and "Hobbit" (and "Silmarillion", but it was later) I became a huge fan of Tolkien's world. Middle Earth, hobbits, elves, dwarfs etc.- one big story, emotional and taking us in the world of imagination. One of my favorite character is Pippin- always happy and brave :). Every year, I must read all series at last one time- it's my duty! ;)
About movies... Aren't bad, but not perfect- of course, creation a world of "Lord of The Rings" on silver screen is a huge challenge, almost impossible- but Peter Jackson did it! Good acting and scenery, epic music, details- all of this is just beautiful :). Now I waiting on "Hobbit", I "know" it will be a good movie, but it's something strange:

"Lord of The Rings"- three "fat", long books- three movies
"Hobbit"- one not too long book- also three movies...

Somebody want to earn more money, I guess...

To me LotR is what would happen if Star Wars went Magical and Midevil. I love it, but at the same time, I have a friend that is absolutely obsessive over it, so I can only take so much of it.

HOLY CRAP LOTR!!!! I'm so super excited for The Hobbit. It's gonna be amazing. I think this is the only series where the movies are better than the books. *ducksforcover* Ahem, well anyway. Sam is the greatest best character in my opinion. He's epic. @_@
