Lurking is my jam.
Lately when it comes to video games small companies with low budgets that make Single Player games tend to be the most fun now?

Nintendo is the exception.

But My Favorite Game currently is State of Decay made by a company NOBODY really knows. It's just sad but amazing at the same time.

What do you guys think about that observation?

I see that but, then again, I find single players to be more fun anyway simply because I don't share well. I've tried online-multiplayers before but it just doesn't appeal to me. I like being in control and playing my own way.

On the subject of small companies no one has ever heard of, well that's true too. When companies get to be as big as Capcom and Namco and the like they start to believe their **** doesn't stink, like they can do no wrong; which is when they start selling crap.

Games just aren't what they used to be and I guess we're all going to have to get used to it.

Nintendo and Capcom rule...all other games post PS2/Gamecube/XBox era suck...save for some Sega and Bandai games....End of story...

I have notised this. The indie horror games, are about the only new horror games that I enjoy playing now.

You guys are either closed minded or don't play many games. It's one thing to have a preference for certain games or companies, but to flat out say that today's games suck is pretty ignorant. I can honestly tell you right now that this past generation has been a really good one for video games.

Who said that? Mag said that games aren't what they used to be, which is true. Not necessarily a bad or a good thing, it's just changed. Not sure about everyone, but a lot of people have the 360, PS3, and the wii. We all played last generation, and be honest, leaving out preferences, with each generation comes more technology, so really nothing's getting "Better" We're just advancing in technology, which mean's, now we're capable of better graphic's, sound, and gameplay. as far as the story's in games those haven't really changed, and games are less scary than they used to be.

He was referring to me my friend. Due to the fact that I'm "Close Minded" about modern games. I don't get the enjoyment out of them...I don't...It's a matter of opinion. But anyway, to answer your question "Who said that?" it was me.

I thought you were joking LOL. Any way for the record, KK is one of the most open minded people I've never met.

Hey, I love modern day games like infamous(one of my all time favourites), The uncharted series, MGS4, Fifa 14(but i've played fifa since 2000 so probably just me xD), Red dead Redemption, they are all fun, with great gameplay and great story imho.
But I also agree that some indie companies are making great games nowadays, Amnesia is the best example I can provide, and yeah, imposing co op on us(like resident evil 5 and 6) is something I dont like. It should be there as an option, not as an obligation.
And about nintendo games, I play them for the fun(don't own a wii, but I have a very good friend who does so paly there all the time) they aren't exactly games with an amazing story but yeah they usually are all fun.

So everyone is mixed here. Time for my actual opinion.

When I was young I was born around the Gamecube, Ps2, and Xbox. I was a weird one I had a gameube but I was ending up playing the Previous Generation. Gamecube, I was playing N64. By the Wii I was playing Gamecube. Wii U I was playing the Wii. I was generally Strictly Nintendo only. So I have most experience with them. Also being my favorite company that delivers quality games.

My only other systems are Ps3 and PSP and PC I refuse to go any further as they next gen are incredibly disappointing. But I have played many games after the Wii which I decided to change it up on 2007.

I've played many games. Some that leave a good mark on me.

Examples: (Sony) Naruto, GTA, Uncharted 1 & 2 Infamous (1), Metal Gear Solid. Soul Calibur 2 & 4 Resident Evil. And Many others. I knew Eventually I'd get tired of them which I have (For Resident Evil, Unchrted, And Infamous.)

I branched out once more, this time on the PC.

I was always a zombie freak so most of my list has zombies. Hell This is the list of installed games I have currently

Left 4 Dead 2

Killing Floor

The Walking Dead

Biohazard 6

And the Beauty known as....
State of Decay

Out of them all I ONLY play State of Decay which was made by a Company known as Undead Labs.

State of Decay was a Xbox port as a Arcade game. 19.99 USD Okay? Open World. Manage Bases, Zombie Survival. Ect

19.99 USD

Let's see...

Dead Rising Series.

Point A to Point B
Main Characters
Survive
Ending

59.99 price tag. Big Company Cappy

Game is trash compared to State of Decay in my honest opinion. (Side note: Who ever designed the personallity for DR bosses is one crazy motherfuc***)

Resident Evil
Point A to B
Bosses
Survive
Guns

49.99 Respectively. To their launch dates. (Re4 Eludes me though.)

Dead Island
Survive
Missions
Roam for Materials
Free Fighting
Crafting
Vehicles
Human NPC's

49.99 Respectively

I've had these games before they are fun to a point but point is they were made by the big shots.

State of Decay-Small Company Much more fun than the big shots

Kudos Undead Labs

Make Class 4 Already.

I'm referring to anyone who shares the opinion. I understand preference towards certain games, but to say "has anyone noticed" like it's some sort of fact that anyone can think about and realize? Yeah, no. I actually don't really care much for indie games or even the smaller developed titles, but even I know there are some gems here and there. Just because you don't like something, doesn't mean it's terrible. Like I said, you either haven't played many games or you're just closed minded. From the looks of it, you've chose the latter.

I don't know, but shunning everything else after a certain generation is pretty closed minded.

He's not close minded, he is just the biggest nintendo fan boy ever.

No offense.

Being a fanboy is nothing to be proud of... Those are the most moronic people ever. So please, stop speaking for KennedyKiller as I am positive he is capable of doing so himself because you're not really helping his case.

No one is shunning anything. We're not having a big 'ol bonfire stacked with new games, protesting the creation of new consoles until someone has a brilliant game idea or trying to get new titles banned, we're just saying that the games now aren't as good as they used to be. I mean sure they're pretty and all but the quality isn't there and, honestly, neither is the replay value.

That's my point exactly. That's a very ignorant thing to believe. You're gonna generalize modern video games as graphics over quality but not any of the previous generations? Every generation has its fair share of garbage and has always made an effort to give top notch visuals. Metroid Prime, Resident Evil 4, Halo 2, The Legend of Zelda The Wind Waker, all sport some of the best graphics seen in its generation and neither of these games lack in quality. It's the same today as it was then. Some developers even today aren't afraid to sacrifice graphics for quality. I'll give two of the most recent examples of this with Splinter Cell: Blacklist and Dead Rising 3.

I don't know what games you play, but this generation has been filled with quality. Off the top of my head... Resident Evil 5, Batman Arkham City, Uncharted 2, Borderlands, Gears of War 3, Bioshock, Portal 2, Tomb Raider, Red Dead Redemption, Skyrim, Assassin's Creed II, Halo 4, Mass Effect 2, The Last of Us, etc. Like 'em or not, there's no denying what most of these games have accomplished or the sheer amount of quality they have brought to gaming, period. Just as many games today, if not, more games offer the same amount of greatness that our favorite games from the past did. I don't know if some of you are blinded by nostalgia or if it's just a personal preference and that's okay. I've been there, still am, and always will be. I appreciate the past as much as anyone here, just don't fool yourself into thinking every game is as shallow as Call of Duty or Battlefield.

Lol...Tanks a mil bud...Seriously...

See, to me replay value is a HUGE factor...I mean...I can replay Spyro 2, RE2, Sonic Adventure, Maximum Carnage, LoZ: OoT, Crazy Taxi, Unreal Tournament, Frogger 2, Super Mario World, Jak and Daxter, over and over...But it just seems to me that games today don't have the same replay value...All of the RE games from RE4 and prior I can play the story mode 100 times over and NEVER be disappointed...But with games that I would consider GOOD on modern systems, games such as RE5, Street Fighter IV, DMC4, Batman Arkham Asylum, Star Wars the Force Unleashed, Ratchet and Clank: All4One...All these games were good games, and Me giving Batman: Arkham Asylum props is a BIG thing because I hate Batman (No offense Flora lol), and as much as I LOVE Street Fighter, unless you're playing with your friends on an all nighter, it DOES get old...But these were good games, but not games I'd pick up a second time after beating them...In fact, I can only think of THREE games from the PS3/XBox era that I DID play more than once, and these I played more than TWICE, and that's Dead Rising 2, and Spider-Man: ****tered Dimensions. I'm not lumping the Wii in there because there are SEVERAL Wii games that I played over and OVER because the replay value was incredible. Such as RE4, Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn, Wii Sports (Had AMAZING replay value, so don't let the fact that it came with the Wii fool you), LoZ: Twilight Princess, Obscure: The Aftermath, RE Chronicles games, and the Lego Star Wars games...Those all had GREAT replay value.

And I'm not saying all modern games are as Shallow as CoD or Battlefield, but I DO really believe they lack some serious replay value, as mentioned above, and VERY few have TRULY resonated with me as far as true love for the Characters, Story, Atmosphere, and Music go...And THAT'S what I want out of a game...I want to truly fall in love with it...And the most recent generation has SORELY disappointed me in that respect...

Quality is a matter of opinion. Resident Evil no longer has quality, period. That includes Resident Evil 5. I'll give you the Arkham games but not Assassin's Creed; every game is the same thing with slight changes to time, settings and characters. I haven't played Last of Us but I can honestly say it looked good while most of the others you've mentioned are eerily similar games over all.

I'm seeing very little originality and innovativeness in today's gaming and I think that's what this discussion is really about. In fact, I was just debating a certain game with a friend the other day. (A friend on the forums, in fact.) Jay was telling me what a master piece and stroke of genius Asura's Wrath is. It is genius! It's a genius that was made almost ten years ago and has spawned many a spin-off called God of War. And, for that mater, God of War took elements from other games and was called a rip-off when it came out. (Though, in my opinion, it went above and beyond the cited games it "ripped-off".)

I think what most of us are looking for is originality and we're not finding it. It's like movies and songs; things that are coming out now remind us of other things, are remakes of older movies or, in the case of music, are taking beats from older songs.

If you can't see that today's games, and media for that matter, are recycled attempts at some feeling of nostalgia to "strike a cord" to our childhood hearts and become endearing with little to no effort then you are the close-minded one, sweetness.
Don't get your panties in a wad, no one is threatening to boycott your favorite games and slow down the assembly line, manufacture-happy style you've come to love; it's all opinion. Everyone has one and they're all different.

People like to throw around the word opinion like it means anything. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, doesn't mean it's any good or even determines what's true. I've said this before already and it still stands. Just because you have a preference doesn't mean that anything else sucks. I don't like RPGs, does that mean all RPGs suck? Hell, I love Sonic games, are they now the best games ever? Also, for you to say that Resident Evil 5 has no quality is just plain ignorant and really shows just how shallow you are. Please, tell me how Resident Evil 5, a solid co-op experience with tons of replay value lacks quality?

Also, you clearly have no clue what you're talking about if you think Assassin's Creed II is just the same thing... The first Assassin's Creed game was a brand new idea that wasn't executed so well. Part 2 is what really upped the ante. Sure, the next two games were very similar and that's because they're trying to tell a story. Part 3 on the other hand made some big differences, not just a change in time period. Anyway, if that's really a problem with today's gaming community... then tell me, why exactly is The Legend of Zelda so beloved? It's been the same old thing since Ocarina of Time? Why should that series get a free pass? Hell, even Resident Evil for that matter.

Not every game needs to be innovative to be a great experience. Sometimes an old idea executed well is all you need. Originality doesn't equal quality. Also, what the hell are you talking about? Asura's Wrath is not 10 years old and God of War certainly didn't copy that. It was Devil May Cry that pioneered the hack and slash genre which ended up giving birth to games like God of War, Bayonetta, and Asura's Wrath. Yet, a clear demonstration of how old ideas can go a long way.

You people here may be looking for originality, but such a small community does not represent the average gamer. Never have I met a gamer whether it be on other forums or even here in real life, who judges a game based on originality but its ability to do things well. Even critics realize this, which is why despite Resident Evil 5's lack of what the series used to be, it is widely recognized as a great game for what it does. BTW, music has been recycled since forever...

Do you even know what replay value is? Replay value is when a game has some enticing factor for the player to go back after it's been passed. Games like Batman Arkham Asylum, Splinter Cell: Conviction, Gears of War, Halo 4, Red Dead Redemption and so many others have replay value. Sure, it takes a good game to make one want to go through the story all over again, and these games do just that, as well as offering some immense replay value. Just look at the achievement/trophy system, because of that, people have been getting more bang for their buck. People are now trying to complete their games to the fullest because their is now some sort of public completion rate that they can brag about. It's a shame Nintendo hasn't adopted this system yet.
