I know this is late, but here is my recommendations.
Console Price: The price for both consoles are about the same, however the Xbox 360 is cheaper, but that is if you can find an Xbox 360 elite and I don't know how common those are now that the Xbox 360 slim is out.
Online: Now I'm going to go ahead and say this, the Xbox 360 without a doubt has better online. Sure you have to pay (Even though it's not that high, but it's high if you pick the wrong payment which would be $20 a month. The cheapest is $50 a year which is about $4.50 a month.), but that is why it's better. Since you're paying to play online then you know that you're going to play online on it more since you want to get your money's worth. Also there are some capabilities that the Xbox 360 have that the PS3 dosen't (Like quick invites, parties, and voice messaging. I don't know if the PS3 now has voice messaging, but I've been hearing that it dosen't).
Games: This is the hardest that I have to recommend as each one has it's own strengths and weaknesses in games. First are the discs. The Xbox 360 uses DVDs while the PS3 uses Blu-Ray discs. This hardly matters in most games, but this will matter in some games. Games like L.A. Noire, Final Fantasy XIII, Dead Space 2, are on multiple discs for the Xbox 360 while on the PS3 they are only in 1, this basically means that you'll have to disc swap for some games on the Xbox 360 while you don't have to for the PS3. Also some games offer exclusive content on the PS3 and while a lot of them are good, some of them have been utter crap (An example of good exclusive content is on L.A. Noire which comes with an extra case for the PS3. An example of a cruddy exclusive content on the PS3 is Red Dead Redemption which comes with 1 extra gang-hideout and 1 extra in-game outfit, the gang hide-out is really not that special and the outfit isn't that speical either and you'll like the other outfits more than the exclusive outfit.). As for exclusives both consoles have really awsome exclusives, but what I can't really say which one is better because of taste. In exclusives for the consoles I think you should see some gameplay of some exclusive games for both consoles and which ever exclusive interest you the most is the one that you should go for in exclusive games.
Problems: Both consoles have problems. The Xbox 360 is known to get the red ring of death. Now I do want to clear one thing up, many people say that the Xbox 360 will give problems frequently, this is lie. The Xbox 360 will give problems, but not frequently. The 2 worst problem you will get are RROD and E14. You'll barely get the E14 error. The RROD will come up frequently if you don't make your Xbox 360 well ventilated or if you over-heat the console, I found this problem easily avoidable by placing the console on top of some cases and placing a little fan behind the console so that way all vents get ventilated and hardly over-heats. As for the PS3 the most common problems I've been seeing are the YLOD, hard drive corrpution, and installation. The Yellow Light of Death which is the equvilant and is much worst than the Red Ring of Death because the YLOD means a non-specific failure, while the RROD will always give out a certain error determining how many rings it has. The YLOD is not a huge problem and if I'm not mistaking, it has only happened in UK. The Hard Drive Corrpution seems to be the worst problem out of all the problems I've listed for both consoles. From what I can understand it's known to happen even if you didn't turn your console off while it was saving so it can happen at any moment and if it happens then you may lose all your saved data for everything. Last is installation which if I can understand as well, happens on 3rd Party titles so if you plan on buying some 3rd Party titles then get ready for about 5-20 minutes of installation, the Xbox 360 can install games onto your hard-drive, but that is only an option.
Here is how I will recommend a console too you.
Xbox 360: I'll recommend this if you don't care about paying about $4.50 a month to play online or for free if you just want to buy stuff over the marketplace and talk to people, can care less about disc swapping, has the more games that interest you, and if you want a console at a cheaper price.
PS3: I'll recommend this console if you don't want to disc swap and has more games that interest you.
I'm not saying that one console is better than the other, but rather that is how I'll recommend a console to you kristoffer.
