hard decision

Through that door, is a seperate reality.
Not sure where this should go, but I need some help.
I think I'm going to sell my PS2. I just called my local gamestop and found out that they don't carry the games any more, and it's the only system I have. I'm thinking about getting a 360 but I wanted to know if RE4 and RECV are going to be realeased on it, if so can somebody give me a date on when it will? if I sell it it will most likely be put up on amazon so if any body wants a PS2 let me know.

You wont get much for it. Yes re 4 and cvx are being released on it. But i reccomend saving up 20.00 extra and going for the ps3. actually sony had a price cut for ps3 so i think its even cheaper than xbox now. and you dont have to pay for internet. and ps3 has better exclusives. in fact i would probably pawn my 360 for weed and ciggaretes if my lil bro didn't like playing it so much. re 4 and cvx are also on ps3 so i hope i helped you make the right decision.

Deciding between PS3 and XBox 360 depends on:

- if you're willing to pay for XBL (although XBL has a better online service than PSN)
- what exclusives you prefer (e.g. there's Metal Gear Solid, God of War, inFAMOUS, Little Big Planet and Uncharted on the PS3 but L4D, Halo and Gears of War on XBox 360).
- if you want to use the Blu-ray player aspect of the PS3 (both consoles play DVDs but PS3s play 2D and 3D Blu-rays)

There are no Resident Evil exclusives for either console, the only current disc release for them is Resident Evil 5 (I recommend you get Gold Edition if you want the extra costumes, online modes and story modes). Operation Raccoon City will be coming out for both consoles (sometime next year?) and yes, both Resident Evil 4 and Resident Evil - CODE: Veronica are being re-released in HD next month for both consoles. However, Resident Evil: Director's Cut is currently only downloadable from PlayStation Store (for about £8).

Both consoles can have their problems, but I've known PS3 to not have as many problems as an XBox 360. But they're both great consoles, I own a PS3 and my fiance owns an Xbox 360.

If you have spare cash: get some Resident Evil skins for your console on eBay!!

I wouldn't recommend selling your PS2 if you have PS2 games you want to play on it. PS2 games DO NOT work on the PS3 (PS1 and PS3 games do though, and it will also take DVDs and Blu-rays). You won't get much more than £20 for it.

I know this is late, but here is my recommendations.

Console Price: The price for both consoles are about the same, however the Xbox 360 is cheaper, but that is if you can find an Xbox 360 elite and I don't know how common those are now that the Xbox 360 slim is out.

Online: Now I'm going to go ahead and say this, the Xbox 360 without a doubt has better online. Sure you have to pay (Even though it's not that high, but it's high if you pick the wrong payment which would be $20 a month. The cheapest is $50 a year which is about $4.50 a month.), but that is why it's better. Since you're paying to play online then you know that you're going to play online on it more since you want to get your money's worth. Also there are some capabilities that the Xbox 360 have that the PS3 dosen't (Like quick invites, parties, and voice messaging. I don't know if the PS3 now has voice messaging, but I've been hearing that it dosen't).

Games: This is the hardest that I have to recommend as each one has it's own strengths and weaknesses in games. First are the discs. The Xbox 360 uses DVDs while the PS3 uses Blu-Ray discs. This hardly matters in most games, but this will matter in some games. Games like L.A. Noire, Final Fantasy XIII, Dead Space 2, are on multiple discs for the Xbox 360 while on the PS3 they are only in 1, this basically means that you'll have to disc swap for some games on the Xbox 360 while you don't have to for the PS3. Also some games offer exclusive content on the PS3 and while a lot of them are good, some of them have been utter crap (An example of good exclusive content is on L.A. Noire which comes with an extra case for the PS3. An example of a cruddy exclusive content on the PS3 is Red Dead Redemption which comes with 1 extra gang-hideout and 1 extra in-game outfit, the gang hide-out is really not that special and the outfit isn't that speical either and you'll like the other outfits more than the exclusive outfit.). As for exclusives both consoles have really awsome exclusives, but what I can't really say which one is better because of taste. In exclusives for the consoles I think you should see some gameplay of some exclusive games for both consoles and which ever exclusive interest you the most is the one that you should go for in exclusive games.

Problems: Both consoles have problems. The Xbox 360 is known to get the red ring of death. Now I do want to clear one thing up, many people say that the Xbox 360 will give problems frequently, this is lie. The Xbox 360 will give problems, but not frequently. The 2 worst problem you will get are RROD and E14. You'll barely get the E14 error. The RROD will come up frequently if you don't make your Xbox 360 well ventilated or if you over-heat the console, I found this problem easily avoidable by placing the console on top of some cases and placing a little fan behind the console so that way all vents get ventilated and hardly over-heats. As for the PS3 the most common problems I've been seeing are the YLOD, hard drive corrpution, and installation. The Yellow Light of Death which is the equvilant and is much worst than the Red Ring of Death because the YLOD means a non-specific failure, while the RROD will always give out a certain error determining how many rings it has. The YLOD is not a huge problem and if I'm not mistaking, it has only happened in UK. The Hard Drive Corrpution seems to be the worst problem out of all the problems I've listed for both consoles. From what I can understand it's known to happen even if you didn't turn your console off while it was saving so it can happen at any moment and if it happens then you may lose all your saved data for everything. Last is installation which if I can understand as well, happens on 3rd Party titles so if you plan on buying some 3rd Party titles then get ready for about 5-20 minutes of installation, the Xbox 360 can install games onto your hard-drive, but that is only an option.

Here is how I will recommend a console too you.

Xbox 360: I'll recommend this if you don't care about paying about $4.50 a month to play online or for free if you just want to buy stuff over the marketplace and talk to people, can care less about disc swapping, has the more games that interest you, and if you want a console at a cheaper price.

PS3: I'll recommend this console if you don't want to disc swap and has more games that interest you.

I'm not saying that one console is better than the other, but rather that is how I'll recommend a console to you kristoffer.

ps3 can still use regular dvds. and ylod only occurs if you leave yo ps3 on for like 5 days straight without turning it off. as for prices ps3 is 250.00 for a NEW one sony had a price cut acouple days ago.
plus xbox never gets exclusive content. ps3 dead space 2 gets a free dead space extraction ported to ps3, u dont even have to pay for move, it uses a regular controller. and even if online is cheap for xbox you dont have to pay ANYTHING for online on ps3. im not saying ps3 is better, but it has more horsepower under the hood, plus better graphics. i do like my ps3 better, i bought a used one that works 4 times better than my new xbox.

but ps3 has resistance AND kilzone.
resistance is superior to gear of war, and killzone is superior to halo.
ps3 has much better exclusives.

Surely subject to opinion? My fiance loves both Killzone AND Halo as well as Gears of War (not much of a Resistance fan though) - they're all pretty different games, they're not really similar enough to be counterparts between the consoles as such. They're all pretty good anyway!

Did you even read my post? I'm going to have to bullet points now.

#1 - First off a PS3 never uses a DVD disc, it can play DVD movies on a DVD disc. And just in case you want to argue about it some more, look at the bottom of a PS3 disc, it says "Blu-Ray". Also I never did say that a PS3 Blu-Ray disc was better than the Xbox 360 DVD disc, in matter of fact I said that the PS3 Blu-Ray disc is better because you don't have to disc swap with some games.

#2 - The Xbox 360 still cost less, even less than $250. I checked the prices. I don't know how $250 is less than $200.

#3 - I also said that the YLOD is not a huge problem, meaning that it "Rarely happens".

#4 - That is exactly what I said. I only mentioned the PS3 gets exclusive content and the only reason why I mentioned the PS3 gets exclusive content is because it does.

#5 - Again, did you even read my post? I said that the Xbox 360 does make you pay and I did say that playing online on the PS3 is for free at this sentence " Now I'm going to go ahead and say this, the Xbox 360 without a doubt has better online. Sure you have to pay...". And even though it's free to play online on PS3, it still better on the Xbox 360 because you're paying and since you're paying you'll most likely play online on the Xbox 360 more than the PS3 because you want to get your money's worth.

#6 - A PS3 dosen't have better graphics than a Xbox 360. I looked at graphical comparisons for a lot of games that came out for both consoles and they look the same. Also why do graphics matter when choosing a console, nobody plays games for graphics, people play games for fun.

Next time you want to start an agrument make sure you are prepared to defend youself.

I'd go for a 360 if i were you. You might want to hold out for a couple of months though, as apparently Microsoft is planning a price cut in response to the PS3's sometime before this holiday season.

Here's just a few reasons as to why i feel a 360 is the better choice:

  • Better online - Live is superior to the PSN, though that's not to say that PSN is terrible. You get what you pay for really, and Live offers better connection, options like Cross Game Chat and Xbox Live Arcade which is phenomonal. If you shop around, you can get Live cards a lot cheaper than the normal price.
  • The vast majority of multiplatform games look and/or perform better on the 360, although you'd likely never notice the difference unless you went looking for them on all but a few games. The reason for this is because the 360 is a lot easier to develop for than the PS3, as the Cell used in the PS3 makes life difficult for the developers, hence why the 360 is more often than not the lead development platform.
  • Exclusives - In my opinion, the 360 has better exclusives than the PS3, though when it comes down to exclusives it's entirely subjective to what appeals to you.
  • 360 is backwards compatible with Xbox games from last generation, whereas they don't make backwards compatable PS3s anymore, meaning you won't be able to play your PS2 games on it.
  • RROD isn't as much of a problem as it used to be. Any 360 models with the Jasper chip (All new 360s made from 2008? i think) have a much lower chance of encountering any problems.
As for wesker_awesome spreading misinformation such as the PS3 lasting for ten years more than the 360, that's complete and utter rubbish. Both Microsoft and Sony have stated that they would like the 360 and PS3 to last for ten years. This doesn't stop them from releasing a new console during that time though. This was shown when the PS2 continued to have games made for it long after the PS3 came out. It's popular opinion that both the next Microsoft console and Sony console will be released within the next two to three years.

Ultimately, it would probably come down to which console's exclusives you are more interested in. The 360 has exclusives like Gears of War (The newest game of which is released very soon), Halo, Fable, Forza, the complete Mass Effect series etc, while the PS3 has exclusives like Uncharted, INfamous and Gran Turismo.

Doing one little survey wouldn't settle it. Even doing a MASS survey of thousands of people wouldn't settle it. It's a matter of opinion to the individual that cannot be definitely settled, ever. No offence, wesker_awesome, but you're being a little fanboyish about it - and I say that as a PS3 gamer! This whole thing is a matter of looking at the pros and cons of each console, looking at their specs, looking at their exclusives and seeing what the gamer themselves prefer. That's it.

I would advise to the original poster that they find gameplay vids of the popular exclusives (Xbox 360: Gears of War, Halo, L4D etc, PS3: MGS, Uncharted, LBP, Killzone etc) or better yet, see if their friends have them and have a go on them to help decide which console to buy.
