I Feel like since there isn't much talk of it already, we need to get this open,
So for all the Halo fans, let's unite in this thread to discuss.
The first bit of good news for this thread is the following

http://www.bbc.co.uk/newsbeat/17755467

basically to sum up, the official release date has been announced, and it is
November 6th 2012
this not only excites me, but many of you i am sure.
i've been a halo fan since the very beginning and can even remember setting up a LAN to play HALO:CE round my friends house.
and FINALLY we have an official follow up to halo3.
can anyone else say, about time?

I'll be honest..If it wasn't the three games in the Master Chief saga...Halo SUCKED...But Halo 1-3 are great...And all I know about Halo 4 was what I saw while watching the E3 coverage last year...But it looked boss....Nuff said...

i feel a bit stupid for asking but, am i reading this wrong or..."halo sucked, but halo 1-3 are great!"
please explain, i put this down to being over tired...i'm sure i'll re read in the morning and kick myself.

I enjoyed the hell out of Halo 1, 2 and 3 :) The only thing I liked about ODST was Nathan Fillion, Adam Baldwin and Alan Tudyk behind the mics, I got rid of Halo Reach a week after I bought it, I just never wanted to see it again :(

I'm not hyped for Halo 4, but I'll grab it since I'm still an avid fan of Master Chief :D

let's agree on one thing now, voice acting aside, ODST sucked huge hairy balls...worst thing to happen to halo since...well, EVER. From start to finish i did not enjoy it, i tried, i didn't give up, but i just couldn't have fun with it.
Halo Reach was a bit meh, i'd give it 5/10, played it once, had a quick bash at MP and never really went back to it.
i'm excited for 4 because it's going back to chiefs story, which we've been waiting far to long for.

Sorry...Was supposed to say Halo Reach/ODST SUCKED

thank god for that, i was thinking, am i really misreading this...
and i agree they do, original trilogy kicked ass.
i would love to see halo 2 come back online..probably my most favourite FPS of all time!!!! (screw COD and BF, halo 2 had it nailed)

Since Halo abandoned the Master Chief I started to see Halo as a massive joke in gaming and the "Power Armor is for Pussies" quote in DNF just made me laugh every time I heard it :D I mostly played Halo because of Sergeant Johnson :D He reminded me so much of Apone from Aliens lol

I agree completely...I thin Halo 2 was the best Halo game ever made...CoD is a lame excuse for a game as well in my opinion...As for a favorite first person shooter...I'm a total nerd...I'd have to say Star Wars: Battlefront lol...But Halo 2 is my second place most likely...

oh wow..i haven't played SW:Battlefront in YEARS, i totally forgot about it.
that aside i used to spend ages playing halo 2, i couldn't even begin to tell you how many hours i racked up online on it..because honestly...i have no idea. especially getting into the 40's when it was mostly cheaters, that's where the biggest challenge was.
that for me, got me into FPS games in the first place, and after a slight black ops addiction i've kinda moved on now, i hate how much i loved black ops, because you're right, COD sucks..LOL.
but seriously, if i could bring back one game, it would be halo 2, just to play it on live again....

HAHA he so did, i always thought of Apone as well :P

Halo CE in terms of Nostalgia and for its time, nothing is as epic. I wasn't a fan of Halo 2 and 3 because it went for that 'sleek, smooth' gamestyle and missed the intensity and otherworldliness of Halo 1. I really felt like i was fighting same insane alien force in the first but in the other games not so much. Elites spoke english, had politics(Ugghh... I'm sure an advanced alien race have much better means of communication), small explosions and just the general feel of it. I feel the game could've taken a much better route.I think at the same time though i was heart broken at how different Halo 2 was from the E3 preview..now it is not so special watching it but at the time it looked and felt INCREDIBLE.

It did have its pros and cons, but its also worth mentioning i never played Halo 2 online. But if it didn't go it's way Halo Reach might not be the same game and it really did change my perspective on Halo again so i am very grateful for that.I still haven't played halo anniversary yet.

As for Halo 4, i'm not gonna watch any gameplay or read too much info.I did see snap shots in a video clip but i am going to hold off on halo information and just get the game when it comes out.I hope it holds the same intensity as Reach did though. Its unfortunate because i missed out on alot of Reach gaming due to other priorities and xbox failures so when 4 comes out i will be in on it.

I put Halo 3 in my XBox after years of not touching it.

...oh man, this feeling in my heart is so amazing. I'm watching Theater clips that I completely forgot about.
Every day, after school, I would sit in front of the couch and play Halo 3 with my friends. When I wasn't doing that, I was watching Halo 3 machinima (particularly, the stuff by DigitalPh33r/JonCJG.) This game WAS my early teens!

I haven't paid much attention to Halo 4 at all. I really don't know why.

But there's one thing that does bug me... why does multiplayer have a story where all the maps are holograms/VR? I always liked to think that each map in the old games was some lost landmark that no one has touched in years. I loved to just explore the maps and imagine what this place was all about when it was still being used. The ambiance in this game is incredible.
