Just curious but why not IV or AoD? I can see why you wouldn't want to play AoD but I thought IV was one of the more well received games in the original series.
TR IV
was well received, many fans even call it the best of the series, but I didn't like it. I know that the old TRs were (supposed to be) all about exploring, running around, finding items etc, but TR IV goes totally overboard. I don't understand how people can find pleasure in running around for hours, not knowing what to do, what to look for or
where to look for it because you can even switch back and forth between levels, further extending the area you're lost in. I think it's frustrating.
Then there's the visual aspect. I don't mean adult Lara making a face as if someone had woken her up in the middle of the night with a bucket of cold water all along, but the fact that every place she visits in this game looks pretty much the same. Normally you travel through at least four different countries in every TR game (except for AoD), but TR IV lacks this variety and all you see from beginning to end is brown sand, orange sand, and more sand. I know it's all set in Egypt because of the story, but... no. I need variation, especially in a TR game.
My favourites are TR II and III. Nothing beats them. Now I'm curious about that new game that is supposed to come out in March. I know it will be set in only one place as well (some Japanese island), but the potential variety this place offers (beach, mountains, jungle, underground passages, hidden tombs, etc.) probably won't disappoint me, or so I hope.
