It took a LOT of practice, planning, and overall frustration, seeing the B rank appear over and over again, but I finally fine-tuned my gameplay, honed my skills, set out the right plan, and was rewarded with a shiny new A rank with both characters.

Here they are.

Carlos A rank:

Nicholai A rank:

Enjoy.

Apparently the time limit for editing my post has passed, hence the double post now. I have to say I’ve only watched your Nicholai vids at the moment, but I feel seriously impressed. Such great planning and strategy, and wonderfully tactical use of the gun and knife for kills. The quality and framerate of the 2nd vid took a nosedive, and I encountered a few minor blips in your gameplay here and there, but I won’t complain about those (I’d liken it to going down on Kate Beckinsale and then complaining that you got a pubic hair stuck between your teeth!). At any rate, the ‘A’ Rank proves your superior skills.

I have to commend you on that. How many tries must it have taken before you pulled it off successfully? Wow! I could never get anywhere with him. Mikhail always felt easiest to me because of his mix of weapons, but you’ve taken Nicholai’s narrow focus and limited equipment and worked wonders. Well done!

I’ll have to view your Carlos vids now… :D

Both Carlos and Nicholai are equally difficult to earn A ranks with, in different ways, which is why the two interest me so much. Nicholai is difficult because he has a hard time just making it to the end and making it to each hostage on time, which is why I had to skip the reporter early on and go straight to Brad, since his time limit is only 4 minutes. It took about 2 days of practice before I got good enough to finish the game with Nicholai and earn a B rank, but I wasn't satisfied, so I decided to throw in one more hostage (I was originally rescuing 4, letting Dario and Carlos die).

That's where the planning came in. If I went for Dario and the Reporter, THEN went to Brad, he'd be dead every time. The reporter's time limit is 9 minutes, so instead I went for Dario, then skipped the reporter and went straight for Brad. This gave me a little free time to kill everything outside of the restraunt (though I screwed up on the barrel) and still have time to get to Marvin (and the zombies there gave me problems). THEN I went back to get the Reporter. Noty only did this result in getting the hostages on time, but because I got my E. rounds late I could use them a bit more freely in the second half of the game, specifically to soften zombies and Bus Nemesis.

Carlos is different. His game is easy to finish, but even if you do everything flawlessly (all 6 hostages rescued, all checkpoints hits, Bus Nemesis killed, ammo/time remaining, no sprays used, and numerous consecutive kills), there's still a chance that he can only end up with a B rank despite having an admirable performance. It has something to do with his clock reading and his lack of being able to score consecutive kills (kills under the same time bonus), which is how Mikhail gets his score so high.

So, in the end, Carlos can do things perfectly and get to the end easily, but still might only have a B rank because of time and the randomness of his weapons, whereas Nicholai has an incredibly difficult time staying alive, but is almost guaranteed an A rank if he survives because of how knife kills apply to score.

Thanks, that definitely looks so much better!

I really loved how you took out that bus Nemesis. I kept avoiding it and wondered why I’d end up with low rankings, hahaha. You showed it no mercy and dodged it superbly.

Yeah, I read as much when I started viewing your Carlos vids. Very wonderfully done, I must say! I wish I could download these from filefront or something (no hint intended, lol!).

Congratulations! This has made me want to pick RE3 back up and play it — after finishing the game I kept playing The Mercenaries over and over again because it had me addicted. I may have to try your route and techniques, and see if I can improve my own game. Cheers!

I believe there's a program or a website that allows you to download the base files for the videos off of Youtube. You should be able to acquire most (or all) of the movies from Youtube that way, at least whatever you're looking for.

Thanks. I can finally rest now.
