Comments? Suggestions?

I was just curious if there was a need for this sort of thing stronger than my convictions alone. The comments and suggestions thread on the site has vanished and i was wondering if theres a need or reason to bring it back.

1. I think theres always a need for improvement and i think that answers may come in ways we never thought of
2.Things that are commonly thought of as a good addition could be improved upon
3. Its a good source to find out how the users really feel about the site and all of its features

But i know this is just one of many sites and i might just be partial. Also i dont know if theres a way to even change anything i havent been on in a while. And i know theres been a massive changover and could be just tired of changing the interface. If i'm wrong or misinformed i'll gladly retract this thread.

Well just little things like the profile word count and the 'edit' time limit. But there may be other things people would like to add or take away that would have merit. I also would like to express my man love for this forum in general with all the new updates after comming back. But if theres no need for it then i dont have any real issues here. Just a suggestion.

Is there a way we can extend the post count and profile word counts? Also why the stipulations on editing? I think some posts require a little more than 10 minutes to edit. Not only that but there seems to be a time limit on editing once you've saved your changes. What is the reasoning behind this. Am I the only one who has the 10000 character limit problem?

Edit: the time limit thing doesnt bother me on the re-edit. It seems to be only a few seconds

Why are out screen names different colors? I mean, mine and Cap's are gold, Femme, your's is red, there are several people with black....What do the colors of our names signify, and howd that happen...I feel like a dolt for not knowing but...

Some usernames are in different colours to distinguish them as either members of staff or gold members. The people who have gold names have (usually) paid for subscriptions, it gives them a couple extra priviledges. My name is in red because I'm a moderator... Angel and Steve have their names in dark red because they're like... admins or something I think?

All of the other regular members are black.

Now that is a wee bit odd... I've just had a quick poke around the admin control panel and you shouldn't incur any restrictions on post editing where editing allowance times are concerned, but seeing as how you say that you are means that something must have gone awry somewhere. I'll have to look into that.

Regarding profile messages: out of my hands, I'm afraid. I recall wanting to lift the maximum character count a while ago, only to find there isn't an option to do so. It's meant to be like Twitter, you see, and it doesn't seem like the XenForo (forum software that we're using) developers want it to change, in the sense of imposing sentence-or-two long limitations on posting, or whatever.

Regarding your having difficulty saving alterations to your post(s): can you confirm that this is definitely still occurring for you? I believe it should be sorted now.

I can certainly agree that the usergroup colours could use some clarification, though! I might incorporate a colour legend towards the bottom of the forum homepage, or something similar.

You're saying XenForo want it to be similar to Twitter and don't want its customers to be able to control the character limit? Man that is stupid, if it's their chosen policy! You are the king of your own forum and you should be in control of that.


A little problem was fixed a couple months ago, I want to say that I appreciate it. It used to bother me that when I merged posts, I would be sent to the main forum page. Now I can merge without leaving the thread which is nice. I don't even have to go to the first page in the thread; the same page will reload. Very nice!

When I delete a post in a multi-page thread, I will be forwarded to the first page in the thread. (I don't delete posts often but I believe it still works this way.) Is it possible to reload the same page when the post is deleted? The same page will reload when posts are merged so I hope it can work the same way when a post is deleted.

An option to raise the character limit would have been nice, but I won't be losing sleep over it. It's not intended for users to be able to jot down War and Peace-length messages to each other, it's just a means of allowing people to share something that's on their mind and in a nice brief fashion. I think it works great, in that regard. I've used it a few times myself and it's nice to be able to leave a quick message without the hassle of needing to pad it out too much, as if it were a regular post, or something.

No worries! It's very rare that posts needs to be deleted anyway. I'm just thankful it works so great when posts are merged, that happens much more often.

Ahh thats too bad about the profile message thing. Thanks for looking into it for me i'll have to get back to you on the editing mystery though
