There are a couple of recent occurrences here that I wanted to address, hopefully to avoid them in the future. I’ll make them relatively short and simple.

KEEP PASSWORDS TO YOURSELF
Please don’t give your password out to anyone, ever. Try to make it at least a little bit difficult for people to guess. We have had two or three instances already where people have been banned for sending abusive private messages or posting pornography, and both have used the excuse that a third party had ‘hacked’ into their account. I’ll let it slide this once, but next time all you’re going to get from me is a ‘sorry about your luck, kiddo’. Blaming it on someone else will not be a good excuse anymore, so please make sure your passwords are secure, and if you’re on a public computer never select the ‘Remember Me’ tab and never keep yourself logged in once you leave.

DON'T ASK TO BECOME A MODERATOR.
I’m uber serious; it’s written right there in the rules, so all it tells us is that you’ve never bothered to read them. When it comes time to take on a new moderator here, I’m sure we’ll have a nice discussion about who would be the best selection, and Steve or Angel will come to you and ask. Vice versa rarely works; trust me.

GET PERMISSION BEFORE ADVERTISING FORUMS
Always get permission from Steve before advertising your forums, and make sure you let us know that you’ve received it. URLs in your signatures are okay, but if you want to make a thread about it, ask Steve first. Thanks.

UTILIZE THE 'SEARCH' BUTTON BEFORE MAKING NEW THREADS
Please do a quick search before making new threads. I don't know how many times I've had to repeat this. Duplicate threads are beginning to overwhelm the board, namely because some members rarely bother to look first. Of course, there are exceptions; if a thread hasn't been updated in several months, then feel free to make a new one.

Edit: Please pay attention to that exception. Be mindful of how old a thread is before you bump it. Anything under a couple of months is fine, but there is no reason to bump an eight-month-old thread. Keep in mind that the membership is not what it was eight months ago, and you could be responding to people who are no longer here to defend themselves or respond to you. If a thread is over 3 months old, I would recommend making a new one.

IGNORE SPAMMERS
And lastly; some of y’all may have noticed that Strikesback5 had a brief stay here about a week ago. As I stressed before, please just ignore all his posts. Don’t even bother responding, because he’s just trying to push your buttons. Report him, and he’ll be gone as soon as possible.

Of course, if you have any questions or comments at all, please feel free to contact any one of the staff. Thanks a bunch! :)

WHEN NECESSARY, USE YOUR IGNORE LIST
Is there someone you cannot stand or always seem to fight with? If you add their username to your ignore list, you will no longer see their posts or have any personal contact with them on this forum. You can find it under your Settings and Options tab - it's there for a reason so please use it if you feel you need to.

WHEN YOU RECEIVE - ANY - ADVERTISEMENTS VIA PRIVATE MESSAGE, LET A MOD KNOW

Guys - you know posting links to other forums is against the rules without Steve's permission... sending them through a private message obviously is as well. If someone has privately sent you any questionable links... please report it to a mod. With the number of private messages of this nature that were recently sent out, I'm a bit baffled as to why only one person saw fit to let us know.

THE NEW WAY TO IGNORE

Since the update, you'll have noticed a bajillion changes and one of them is that the Ignore and Block functions no longer exist in their previous form. So what the hell do you do when someone is pushing your buttons? Well whilst you cannot stop reading their posts, you can stop them bugging you on a personal level.

  • Click on your name at the top of the screen.
  • Select the Privacy option.
  • Underneath the heading "People who may..." you have five drop-down boxes across two sections.
  • Pick the settings you prefer, ensuring that you are no longer following the person or persons in question.
  • Click Save.

Then it's best not to respond to anything that person does or says to avoid getting into trouble yourself. Don't write about them, to them or try to get other members involved on your behalf. On this site you guys are good - you don't mess about and no one seems to have made any enemies which is really nice to see, so I doubt you'll need these options enabled. But just know they are there if you need them :)

DOUBLE/TRIPLE/QUADRUPLE POSTING IS A NO-NO
I'm getting tired of reminding people not to double post unless absolutely necessary, and I'm sure Romero is getting tired of having to constantly manually merge them. We all know that double posting is against the forum rules, so its time to actually listen to them. So, from this point forward - ANY double posts that the staff views as unnecessary and easily avoidable can and will be deleted without warning. Cheers.

IGNORE SPAMMERS
I'm bumping this thread because obviously a good number of you have not read it. And maybe you are excused, because it was almost unreadable because the font colors were adjusted to the dark background we had before. I removed all colors above so it should be easy to read now.

We had a spammer/troll here today, and I take this opportunity to remind you: Don't feed them! Many of you did the right thing which is reporting the offending posts, but also many of you could not resist replying to the spam. Please don't reply to spam and trolling, you are just taking the bait and giving them the attention they seek.

Thanks to all of you who reported and PM'ed staff about it.
