Having Alyssa Ashcroft's daughter as our probable main character wasn't exactly something I was expecting! I liked the trailer's vibes and the possibility of exploring the ruins of RC. It does gave me 1st person vibes. It's not my favorite pov for a RE, but I can take it. I'm also pretty positive that I've heard Nicole Tompkins saying "we need to keep our voices down". That means Jill. The other male voice saying he faced these stuff before kinda sounded familiar, but I don't know if it was Matt Mercer sounding raspy (That means Leon. It's certainly not Apostolidis, from Re2R and Re4R) or Jeff Schine (Chris). I'm interested, keep going, Capcom.

Very interested in the Resident Evil Outbreak connection. Between this and Alyssa writing the article about all the disappearances in Lousiana and implicating the Bakers, somebody at Capcom really wants to make her a secret MVP and I'm happy to see where it goes.

Reminds me of Nastasha, maybe your least contacted expert in MGS1, becoming an important background player in 2 by writing a Shadow Moses exposée and using the royalties to fund Snake and Otacon's Philanthropy.

Re9uiem is also a very clever way to incorporate RE9 into the subtitle, without using Roman numerals again.

New protagonist is a blonde haired thin woman who is an FBI agent and sent to investigate the ruins of a major city and forced to confront her distant past??

Sounds like....Parasite Eve!

That's a damn good thing to me, if Squeenix can't do it perhaps Capcom could take RE in a one stop direction for the 9th installment.

Yeah that's it, that's what I get out of this trailer. No gameplay so cannot provide in depth commentary yet but thematically there is potential for sure!

Really wish they would not release soley on Steam though (PC version). GOG and Epic Games users may also be interested.

I don't know if I've ever mentioned it here before, but I did once suggest the idea of revisiting the remnants of Raccoon City for a sort of series "ending" and seeing them do exactly that is pretty goddamn awesome.

Dusk Golem has been touting this game as an endpoint of the series, with Capcom wanting to move away from the status quo and numbered entries and tell stories with new characters but also potentially visit earlier points in the timeline with the classic protagonists. This is something he originally speculated back when the data leak happened that revealed the codename "Apocalypse" for RE9, which was rather fitting in hindsight.

Personally, I really like this idea and I think there might even be evidence to suggest this being the direction they've been taking with the series. The remakes for example seem to now serve a much bigger purpose than originally thought. Especially the order in which they've chosen to remake them. Resident Evil 2 and 3 got to re-establish the events of Raccoon City, which will now be revisited in RE9, which will no doubt carry over assets and locations from both games as we saw with the destroyed RPD, creating a surreal before and after effect after having experienced the remakes.

Dusk Golem has also claimed that the game is acting as a conclusion to the Leon "trilogy" which explains why they did RE4 before Code Veronica. How it ties into 9 is still up in the air, but Leon is said to still be the main protagonist of RE9 and is apparently visible in the trailer as well. Likely the pair of legs we see walking on the sidewalk in the rain. He still stands by Jill having been removed from the game, so it's likely Nicole Tompkins is voicing a new character as she did in Village. Given the concept of returning to Raccoon City, not having Jill seems like a huge f*cking missed opportunity.

It's honestly a little underwhelming to have a finale of sorts only star one of the classic protagonists. I would have even respected the decision to center the story around a new protagonist, so long as her story is intertwined in some way to a bigger plot involving each of the main protagonists. That way, you get to feel like the player, learning and uncovering the plot, while coming across familiar faces and past locations for the final time.

But if there really is some grand plan here to synergize remakes with new stories and possibly revisit earlier points in the timeline, then maybe this game is only really closing off one part of the series as there's still a very clear Chris shaped hole here. Based on the trailer and story direction, I can't imagine how this is meant to tie into Village's ending at all. This is where I think Capcom has been intentionally leaving gaps open to revisit later, because we are given a tease of Chris' next mission only for the Shadow's of Rose DLC to take the wind out of it and skip forward in time and tell us Chris is alive. If they're ever going to tell this story, perhaps they'll use remakes of the Chris-centric games to get us there like they're apparently doing for Leon here?

Resident Evil 4 remake also seemed to leave another story open with Krauser, who's entire backstory is completely changed as well as the events which we originally knew as Operation Javier. I think there was an article by IGN a while back where one of the devs kind of responded to a question regarding the change of Krauser's story and it seemed like it was an intentional choice but couldn't elaborate any further. There's even the strange post-credits scene in the RE3 remake which shows Jill grabbing the broken vial as if there was more to her story post-RE3.

Now with the massive Outbreak connection, which was first teased in RE7 and was then followed by remakes of 2 and 3, it seems very likely that they'd want to remake the Outbreak games so players can not only experience where these new characters come from, but also return to Raccoon City after seeing it in ruins. RE9 did supposedly start development as an open-world co-op game, so maybe it's possible that work was originally meant to pave the way for Outbreak games too.

Considering everything revealed in the backstory of the previous two games, unless this is another case of the series abandoning another storyline altogether for the sake of going off in a new direction (Wesker prior to RE5), then I’m calling it now: that dude in the chair talking to Ashcroft is Brandon Bailey, former Umbrella member and founder and leader of the Connections, bringing the whole storyline with the Mold further into the fold with the rest of the series storyline, beyond Miranda being Spencer’s teacher.

It's bittersweet knowing that they haven't completely forgotten about Outbreak.

Overall, it looks promising so far. I appreciate that they're trying to tie current events to past events instead of just creating random new **** and wondering how they're going to tie it together later. Wrapping things up neatly off screen and briefly mentioning it later in a future game file or, better yet, some 100% completionist content is so tired.

The only thing I'm not a fan of so far is that it seems to be another first person experience. Even if I were to upgrade to current gen, I still wouldn't be able to partake personally as first person makes me motion sick. I'll definitely check out a walkthrough once it drops tho.

I've heard rumors that Jill and Leon are returning.
If that's true, hopefully they'll just be non playable cameos. Given the trailer, I think there's more potential in having Grace as the main, but I also hope they don't do the doomed/infected protagonist thing again.

RIP Alyssa. My girl survived Raccoon City, her death better be epic.

I don't think Leon will be the main protagonist. I think Grace will be and Leon will provide aid via radio/satellite communication -they both work for the government and Leon has tons of experience in this field-.

If Leon was the star of the show Capcom would have shown him to get the fans worked up.

My thoughts:

First, who could have ever predicted that we’d be playing as the daughter of a character from a spin off that Capcom forgot about for over 20 years? Certainly not Mr. Dusk Golem haha.

Gotta say i’m far more intrigued by this reveal than 7’s, which didn’t interest me, and I still don’t find myself wanting to replay. Or Village, which I originally wrote off for continuing 7’s framework but now consider one of the best games and an absolute masterclass of game design and pacing.

Obviously, the Raccoon City return has me hooked, continuity issues aside it’s crazy they’re going there, never would’ve happened if they didn’t remake 2. It has that pointless vibe again though, like 7 and (less so) Village. Grace will probably not be coming back after this.

I’d rather Leon wasn’t in it, or at least not a protagonist but in more of a side role. Ideally none of the mains will return, but I can’t imagine there won’t be at least one returning, regardless of role size.

Finally, I guess the resolution of the BSAA plot will come in RE10, which i’d bet good money is being made alongside this as the finale. I think it’s blatantly clear that Requiem is the first part of what is going to be RE’s at long last endgame, as far as the current canon goes.

Anyway, bring on a Code Veronica remake.

How, precisely, is it “blatantly” clear? It seemed pretty blatant at the time that 5, and then 6, and then Village were going to be the endgames, but then they weren’t. How does anything shown in this impressive but limited trailer make clear in any way that any endgame is coming, other than the return to the ruins of Raccoon City, which has actually been whispered about as an option for 25 years?

Too early to tell. It's certainly not what I expected, but then again I didn't have any specific expectations. After the abomination that was Village I have gradually lost interest in the mainline Resident Evil games - instead I put my trust in the remakes which have been far more enjoyable.

There are however some things in the trailer that gives me hope for Requiem:

1. We are returning to Raccoon City
2. The focus is back on evil corporations experimenting with viruses
3. Zombies are back instead of stupid things like vampires and werewolves

I mean, if done right this could be a great Resident Evil game, because the premise is as classic Resident Evil as it could be. The one thing that bugs me is Grace. She seems interesting and her backstory with ties to the Outbreak games is a fun and bold move by Capcom, but... If the rumors about this game featuring some form of conclusion to certain legacy characters' stories are true, I don't understand why we're forced to experience this conclusion through the eyes of a completely new character. Regardless of her mother's connection to Raccoon City, Grace is still an unknown. And if Leon is in this game, how are they going to tie his arc into Grace's? I would hate if Leon's part in the game is just a short playable section similar to Chris's in Village.

Unless the trailer is misleading us on purpose, and the game is actually bigger than it seems. It might feature multiple campaigns where you traverse Raccoon City as either Grace or Leon, which would be f*cking awesome. Ideally, there should be a campaign for Jill as well.

:LOL::LOL::LOL::LOL:

Yeah seriously, f*ck that guy.

I probably won't even play it because it's only on Steam and Capcom is not evolving in PC world very well, but I look forward to see some gameplay footage nonetheless.

It is so the end, man. The end is nigh. Returning to the ruins of Raccoon City is franchise end level stuff or very much a part of that chapter. It’s like when MGS4, the intended end went back to Shadow Moses (and it WAS an end for Snake, lol). Bookends and all that. If Leon’s really in this i’m worried for the guy.

These OG developers are getting old too. They still have a few more games left to make, a few more remakes etc, but they’re gonna be wanting to start that ball rolling towards concluding stories of characters they started 30 years ago while they’re still creative leads.

About 5, it was only ever an ending for the Wesker stuff, and 6 was never looked at as an ending at all, that. Village literally left it wide open for Chris to deal with the BSAA lol

How do you know it’s the end? Going back to Raccoon City is a gimmick, not any kind of indication that they’re wrapping up, especially when the focus is on a brand new character.

About 5, it was only ever an ending for the Wesker stuff
We didn’t know that at the time. Wesker’s story was the RE story at that point in the series, and since it revealed Umbrella’s beginnings, Wesker’s true plans, and put the world at higher risk than it had ever been prior, then killed off the main villain, with the original heroes alive and flying off into the sunrise, with the only remaining known organization that had access to the biohazard substances being destroyed by the end as well, that felt more like an ending than this does.
and 6 was never looked at as an ending at all, that.

Really? The one remaining mystery regarding Ada was revealed, we finally saw what happened to Sherry, Wesker’s son is revealed and is now making up for family mistakes, no Progenitor virus variant has really been a threat after that in the chronological timeline because of his blood providing vaccines for every Progenitor variant (Vendetta and Dead Island notwithstanding), and the original government conspiracy that helped fund Umbrella’s BOW research being revealed and destroyed, and the whole world essentially being caught up in a biohazard war, that felt more like an ending than this does.

Village literally left it wide open for Chris to deal with the BSAA lol
Before that ending scene, man. Prior to that, especially with the revelation that this game’s events were all caused by Spencer’s mentor, and is where the Umbrella insignia really came from, meaning that this was the true start of it all, until the game ended on that whole thing of the BSAA and realizing the Connections story wasn’t resolved yet either, it was feeling more like an end than this trailer makes this game feel.
