Resident Evil 4 Most hated Weapon!!

yeah, though, if you try to go through the game using nothing but the rocket launcher, that can create a challenge, too. It's hard not to blow yourself up. The chicago typewritter just straight up sucks. It gets so aimlessly boring. It just makes me want to kick puppies, shave cats, and steal candy from babies.

Boring, that is the perfect way to describe that gun. It's great at first, getting all of the special weapons, but I found myself having less of a good time going through each time with it. Same thing for the infinite ammo weapons in RE5, just becomes sort of routine, each run.

Its the weakest Handgun, has a so-so capacity, and has the worst feature of any Handgun, Piercing.

Not only is it rare to line up a headshot, AND get a second target, but the exclusive extends that to 5. Already, if you are aiming for the head, you will very likely not hit your secondary target. You need body shots to use the gun properly, and even then, the chance of lining up 5! I used the Punisher breifly and the most I could line up was 4, and that was in the Village Fight and the Cabin Fight. Those are the two most crowded parts of the game. Normally, you will rarely get 2.

I do admit I like the gun aesthetics. The design of the gun is based off of the sexy Five-seveN. The sound it makes it badass too.
Your points are very interesting, but it goes to show you the diversity of the game.

I personally love the Punisher and the Vp-70 ( obviously ) i've never known a game where two guns are despised so much.

I guess it comes down to what you want and how you play

. Most of the time, i just play with the vp-70 and a shotgun. But when i was first starting out i relied on the Punisher ALOT and it served me very well. Sure the red9 and blacktail are fun for headshots and hold good stopping power. Although always playing the game on Pro i always have a punisher by my side. You do not need lines of your foe to cue up to take a multi tap.

the true power of the gun lies in two areas. Against armour/shields and crowed areas. Don't aim for the head, shoot at the legs, THEN, you find out what the purpose of the gun is, hit them with a kick and you've made yourself a path-way to freedom. and you haven't spent alot of ammo.

It's a resource gun, a survival tool which when used properly, can save you alot of hassle.

I personally adore it as i've already said, i've used the other guns to death and i always come back to the punisher because it suits my style of play, and i think it's cool Capcom put such a gun in there because they were so obviously aware of players like myself.

VP-70, glad you had so much fun with the diverse selection of handguns.:)

I usually just pointed and shot, keeping his custom pistol(isn't it unnofficially called the "Silver Serpent", or maybe that's something else).

That's not a bad philosophy, before you know it you're half way there!

I like the original handgun fully maxed because well you guessed it, the head-splat count goes up and that's always rewarding.

When people prefer the blacktail or red9, it tells me an aweful lot about them as a gamer, which is cool..but i do find the criticism of the punisher and vp-70 ill thought out and over reactionary.

I kept the first run on my first run, all the way through and maxed it out. What does that tell you about me as a gamer?

Let me deduce this down using my style of play.

I find the Punisher absolutley useless simply due to it's weak power. I always go Silver Serpent or Blacktail, due to the lower ammo consumption (More damage/crits=less ammo). The Punisher is meant for taking on large groups, something that should be left for TMP, grenades, shotguns ect... I never use a handgun to take on a group of enemies unless I'm showing off.

And keeping it for those moments whith the shield ganados is a good idea, but with the massive updgrading cost of having a whole new gun to carry is too much of a downside. Also, space doesn't allow me to do that. I prefer a shotgun shell to take the shield off, and a bullet to the brain to take the head off.

Everybody be hatin' on the Bolt Action Rifle, when it's a powerhouse with the exclusive uppgrade. I use it for taking out the double Gigante thing (Launcher on one, normal+rifle parasite shot on the other) because of it's insane innate firepower on that level. If you fully upgrade both your .45 magnum revolver and your rifle, your rifle will be more powerful at that point in time.

I have never used Matilda, Punisher, Killer7, Semi Automatic Rifle, Minedart launcher or Riot Gun for a serious playthrough. Not because they're all bad guns, just because theres better alternatives.

You raise a good point in that it's style of play versus preference.

You find the punisher useless, yet i adore it for it's ability. for example, i don't see it as a gun tto show off with... for example ( in a serious game )

You are back into a corner, you fire a round into a group of knees, and then back heel kick them in the face, leaving you a clear opening...this only takes 1 round. maybe 2 or 3, as accidents happen...i prefer this style to the other option of standin their and popping heads, (which is nice during a relaxed game )

I use my Punisher as my first option, should things get a little crowded and my knee cap & run isn't going to help, then i'll whip out my 12 guage, again, used properly, 1 or 2 shells and the problem is solved.

the matilda, i use instead of the tmp, as the matilda packs enough power to knee cap and spray a group enough to let me escape.

I prefer to keep RE-4 on a survival game level, instead of the action packer it is....this is my reasons for such things. I'm hit and run, not rambo... i believe hit and run is more Leon style anyway so to me it feels more natural..

Punisher,Matilda & 12 guage of course is supplimented beautifully by the bolt rifle.

In short, My punisher for roaming around and escaping, my matilda for distraction, my shotgun for blowing holes and my rifle for taking down that idiot with the potatoe sack over his head.

I have marked in red where I didn't understand what you meant.

What is Silver Serpent? Is that what you call the Red9?
"Normal+rifle" - what is that?

I almost never use the Punisher, because it's high maintenance and little bang for the buck. It is very rare that I can make use of its exclusive penetrating feature. And it's not the only weapon that fires a projectile that can penetrate a bunch of people.

One well placed rifle round can decapitate a shield carrying zealot, or two shieldsters if lucky. I also try to slash or kick off the shield, if he is alone.

The exclusive Rifle upgrade is available after the two giants, so you must be talking about a re-visit after the game is cleared. Interesting choice for slaying El Gigante by the way. There, I prefer guns with higher rate of fire, plus bangers and flashies. A banger can make them both stagger for a moment.

You have seriously never used the Semi-Auto?? While I do love the old Rifle because it looks and sounds beautiful, replacing it with the Semi-Auto is the most important change of weapon I do, because its usability is superior. Sticking with the old Rifle is more challenging, so I take off my hat for that.

I don't like the Matilda because it's so big. I was disappointed when I first saw it, if I remember correctly it is 5x2 spaces which is bigger than a magnum. But I like how it works, except it's relatively weak power.

You see, I kill everybody I can simply due to the fact that you can get loads of ammo for other weapons, and money to upgrade your other weapons. The Matilda just goes through to much ammo to be practical. And what you said about it packing more punch, It's the speed of the TMP that makes it awesome. And you get so much ammo for it, you can't afford not to use it. What you said about the heel kick strategy is only doable in the Village or Mines, because against other ganados it will do a suplex on only one. And it's also done just as fine by a Striker (aiming at the knees), even better just because groups of enemies rarely come to you in a straight line. Not to me anyway. Maybe a good strategy would be to run through, get them on you and bolt back to a corner so you can get 'em all in the knee at once... And plus, I'd just shoot em all twice in the knee, to get them on the ground and then knife them as they get up, just because it would work consistently throughout the game.

So I'm a methodical dude who goes for not wasting ammo by using more powerful bullets. You're the methodical dude(?) who goes for conserving ammo by hitting them to get them down and bolting..

To Romeo: Silver Serpent is what we call the Handgun in my friend group, I gotta stop saying that over the internet :p

For what the normal+rifle is, it's basically what you'd normally do to take him down (for me unloading a helload of TMP bullets in his face), and then shooting the plagas with a rifle. If I remember properly, it's only 2 shots if you do that. What you said about bangers and flashies, I save them for Regenerators, plagas head explode thing and crowded situations. You have to get him down twice though. I do it this way because dropping him into the magma (it's magma because it's underground :l) makes me have to leave and re-enter, but that feels cheaty for me.

I never knew you couldn't have the exclusive at that point... I'd once paused during that fight and went onto FB to talk to my friend. I told him about the fact that my Rifle was at 30.0 Firepower and the .45 magnum revolver was at 24.0, both as maxed as I could. I was surprised the rifle was stronger at that point. I'm probably wrong at this point though. It might've been later in the game.

I've used every gun (except the Handcannon), but I've not used them all for a competetive playthrough. I've used every one for a playthrough, just not one I do proper, you know?

After a meal there's nothing like a good cigar.
I hated the Punisher, it was so weak, why did I waste my time to shoot the medallions (wasting ammo in the prosess) to get this crappy gun?
I have a case of tough love as well. I love the Broken Butterfly, but there is hardly any ammo for it in the whole game. So it almost never gets used while taking up space in my inventory.
I also use it on Krauser. Its kinda like larping rules, that guy has a shield, aim under it to take out his legs. (I love Live Action Role Playing, I have a beast class Basilisk.)

Errr.. wrong forum. You are in Resident evil 4 forum whereas guns u mentioned are in Resident evil 5. I hate the stun rod as well which is why i gave it to sheva but she hardly uses it.

I don't have a least favorite gun, but then again i only did one playthrough (borrowed from a friend).
I used the Handgun, red9, punisher, both rifles, the shotgun, riot gun, and striker.

I might just have to say bolt-action rifle is my least favorite. I would have had even more trouble with the regenerators.

Agreed! It should only have existed on Easy.
Yeah, thats a good point.

Maybe in later games they should really focus less on graphics and looks and bring in more of the environment. Like at the end of RE4, you could use the cranes to help you... there was very little of that in RE4, so i think making more hazzards would mix up the game play a little.

Infact, here is an idea.

there should be 3 player modes ( you listening cap com ) * taps screen * ( yea, you guys with the big glasses and zero social lives )

player mode 1 * ( Rookie ) Should be whatever cap com imagined, basically, so if they wanted to go for a more free roaming kinda game more action like they did in RE4 then fine. Rookie, wont actually be easy, it'll be on a medium level, and when complete, you unlock a star. this star means that when you replay the game, you then play it with your old guns if you like... there are 5 stars, so even though you may have your old gun maxed out... 2nd star will be adjusted in a way to take away any serious advantage you had, by toughening up the bad guys, increasing the environmental threats and presenting new puzzles. Maybe even new bosses, i.e, take away tatty head with the chainsaw and bring in a new character.. It means that with every star you unlock, with each fresh run, the game gets harder ( but more interesting )

player mode 2 ( been there done that ) being the same story line etc, the only thing that changes, is that it goes right back to the old school survival horror... unlike mode1 which will be full of fashin statements, and muscles in places you never knew you had such things, mode 2, will take you straight back to the days of survival horror. none of this baby sitting, like we had to do in RE 4 & 5 with ash and sheva the two most pointless assholes in RE history. no no, this is old school. less ammo, more fright and loads of shakes. basically the RE we old timers loved. You don't complete this mode.... you survive it. the difficulty level will be harder than mode 1, but it'll have its own unlockables etc, again to keep it fresh.

then there is,

player mode 3 ( Apocalypse mode ) It's where modes 1 & 2 join forces ( because they have to ) because what lays infront of them in mode 3, is Cap coms reward to us, ( which is a reward longggg over due ) for keeping faith with the RE brand.

Apocalypse mode has allllllll of the old enemies from RE christmas past.. You will be up against alllll of the old faves, and new. lickers, nemesis, you name it, they are all in it in Apocalypse mode. This is all out carnage, with plenty of thrills, Ammo, bad-guys and environmental interaction to utilize and rise everything out of the meaning of the word (FUN)
the story line would be the same as mode 1 & 2 but the characters of these modes would interact with the new/old enemies from previous games. At a cut scene, you where you expect some chimp from before, and out steps tyrant. In this new mode, in order to keep it fresh, the difficulty level more or less stays the same, but your interest is kept alive by ( unlockable doors ) You see, having collecting seemingly useless keys whilst playing all the star levels on the previous two modes, it then gives you access to locked doors.

When entering said doors, you enter a rather old school ( bonus level ) where your character is thrown back into one of the old Scenes, say, * gun shop * from RE2. you fight a round of baddies, or you simply re-live that scenario... upon completion , you are rewarded with a Gun part and a new unlockble character, say, Wesker, Lius Sera, and maybe old classic guns we used to enjoy.

When you complete Apocalypse mode ( which will take you a while ) your full range of unlockables will be available on all modes in all stars.

Dunno about you guys, but this sounds like fun, and i'd love to see Sera, spin the gun one more time. Or have a very special guest, the merchant pack some heat and kick some Las plagas ass.

None of this, time limit nonsense, just good old fashioned FUN, for everyone.

What do you think ?
