For me, it was Resident Evil 2. I loved the ones on the GameCube back in the day. I do really like the newer games too, though, and I think the remake is impressive.

You can't kill me.
I've been a fan since at or around 2000 since playing RE2 and prefer the original games personally

In all seriousness, my gateway to Resident Evil as a whole, like so many others, was Resident Evil 4. My brother got it for Christmas '05 and we played it a lot.
I was already aware of Resident Evil by that time because of the two (at that time) movies and some flash cartoon parodies of RE3, but RE4 was the one that hooked me. And being 8 years old, I was able to avoid basically all the hype surrounding it and play it with a fresh set of eyes.

Since the very beginning. Two is my favorite but I love the whole series. Didn’t really dig 5 or 6 that much but hey, that’s just my opinion. It doesn’t mean I don’t still play them from time to time. They’re fun to play along with my bro. I don’t own a next gen console so I’ve only had one chance to play RE7 and from the little bit I experienced, it was promising. I’m pretty stoked about the RE2 remake, even though I have no idea when I’d get the chance to try it out, but I’m still excited nonetheless.

I first got into the series with Resident Evil 2 on the N64 through my brother. I remember when he first popped it in and kept dying by stepping into the fire over and over again at the very start. He didn't touch it for a while after until he gave it a go again and this time, on control type C I think. Ever since, we've been hooked. I was too young to play myself, but I enjoyed watching him play through the series, back when it was actually interesting to follow along.

Resident Evil 4 was the first game in the series I actually played and beat though. Then was Deadly Silence as I was mainly gaming on my handheld at the time. I ended up getting a 360 right before the release of Resident Evil 5 and my brother and I were excited to be able to play a Resident Evil game together. I didn't really question the series much then, so I really enjoyed it and still think it's a solid game today. But I definitely think the series has lost its appeal since RE4.

Loving the way REmake 2 looks though. Really hoping the future looks more like that and less like 7 because that game has definitely killed the diehard RE fan in me.

Started with RE1 & RE3 when I was five years old (Year 2000) shortly afterwards got RE2 and Code Veronica.. My obsession started right away. But originally I started with the original Playstation titles :)

I got into the series when I was really young, like pretty much everyone else on here. It was when RE 1996 first came out and I was about 6 years old and would watch my older brothers and their friends play. We never got far with that game and had actually believed that by unlocking the back door to the mansion, with the crests, we would beat the game and escape safely...

I’d try to play the game a couple of times by myself but would get too scared. So whenever I’d win a bet against my brothers I’d tell them that they would have to play the game and beat it so we can “see what happens” (because they basically gave up on the game as we got a bit older). They’d never play it for me though and I think it’s because they were more chicken than anything else. Anyway the first RE game I successfully played through was Code Veronica and from then on I played through and beat the others.

Oh why not.

OG Resident Evil for the PSX, baby. Probably still my favourite of the series to date. And I'm referring to the Sega Saturn port.

I First played Resident Evil 2 on the PSX back in early 2000.

Been hooked ever since, although, I did fall out of love with the series (and gaming for a while). Resident Evil 4 brought me back to the series and gaming ^_^

I have been making my way through the series playing all the games I had already beaten and the ones I have (shamefully) neglected. I do enjoy playing the post RE4 games with my buddies on co-op, since they are casual fans. I thoroughly enjoy the classic style REs.

I first seen Resident Evil in 2006 when my brother had bought RE4 for the PS2. I used to watch him play it a lot. He never got into the series and I started playing it after he put it down. I would say 2007 was when I really got into the series.

Nevermore
I was five or six, in the good old year of 2002, watching my dad play Resident Evil 2. And there was no going back. I went to see the first Resident Evil film in theatres (yes, I was probably too young, but my parents didn't care). It never scared me. I read all the strategy guides as my dad played. I tried my hand at RE2 when I was 8, but died early on because I was an idiot. But then, I got better and played them all, with my love for the series never fading even after my relationship with my father became non existent.

I started with the original episode in 1996. Back then I discovered the game with a childhood love. Since we were eleven, very socially awkward and didn't know much etc, we didn't even kiss, but we did dance a little, and we played the beginning of the game together.

We managed to get past the first zombie after a few tries, yeah, the one who's eating Kenneth in the corridor, this good old "Let me take care of it!" thing. And then we never managed to survive the second one. We didn't really know how to play, or how to save, or anything. We were clueless.

This person played the game a little more and got to Yawn by twelve but wasn't able to get past him. I didn't touch the game again. Then Resident Evil 2 came out in 1998 and oh my non-deities, it was pretty and cool and there was this kind of pic in magazines:

I remember, I saw almost this exact pic but maybe it was in the helicopter corridor with the flaming zombies, maybe, I'm not sure, it was a long time ago. I was thirteen by then, haha, I felt like a grownup! I wanted to play it, I definitely wanted to play it! This kind of pic was in the "INDISPENSABLE TITLES" list of Playstation Magazine (French edition, actually a derivative of the French magazine Joypad by the same journalists), along with Final Fantasy VII and Gran Turismo. The more I looked at it, the more I wanted to play it.

A friend of mine, B, finally lent me the game after finishing it himself. I didn't give it back for six months or more. It was so amazing. Back then I was so bad B had to kill Birkin's final form (of A Scenario, the Birkin centaur) for me, though.

And then I became crazy about Resident Evil. I bought Resident Evil Director's Cut and finished it in all modes, again and again, and then bought Resident Evil 2 and re-finished it, and bought Resident Evil 3 when it came out, and for more than ten years I finished and re-finished every game in a loop until my video game time, my budget and my interest in the series all started fading.

(But way before that, Resident Evil 4 was already a big disappointment, for various reasons I may develop in another post, in another thread.)

TL;DR: First played it back in 1996 with Resident Evil 1 but just tried it, became a fan with Resident Evil 2 in 1998. So I've been a fan for twenty years precisely.
