What are you watching?

Watched Avatar Fire and Ash last night, really good movie that's roughly 3hr 8min without credits. Word is a 4th and 5th movie are already greenlit and expected to release 2029, and 2031. Every one of the movies in this series I have always been curious, then amazed by the technical detail they bring.

The Mummy 2026

I thought the movie wasn't going to be good because it has nothing to do with the actual mummy movies that has rick & evelyn. The movie was good from begining to end. There is another mummy moving come out in 2028 with the original cast and I can't wait for that one.

Going back to Saturday, I went to see Mortal Kombat 2 in the theatre.

How was this not the sequel to the ‘95 movie??

The OG is still the best one but this is a close second. The casting is great, the MK lore is there, it was fun and entertaining and you can tell the guy who made it actually played the games and knows what a fan wants to see. Awesome movie.

Now if someone would just do this with RE, that would be amazing.

MK2 and the ‘95 OG are gaming movies done right.

Pulse (2001)

Japanese horror (J-Horror)

It has a Street Fighter 2 machine game playing in the backround somewhere in the movie.. a plus.

Watched Casino Royale again right before playing First Light the other day to get me “warmed up” for the new Bond game (which is great BTW, easily the best Bond game since GoldenEye). It combines a raw and emotional arc with one of the better Bond girls the series has had to date in Eva Green’s Vesper Lynd and sets the stage early with amazing, visceral fight scenes that amazingly get better as the film progresses, from the opening bathroom fight to the construction site and then the airport.

And for the cherry on top, it is carried by an amazing performance by Daniel Craig, who would prove all the “Bond not blond” naysayers wrong. I remember that sh!t like it was yesterday. Nothing more satisfying than seeing an actor dogged the second his casting was announced and going “I got this”, and boy did he ever. The range and intensity he brings to the role is unmatched. And it would elevate his status for future big roles in The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo (also a classic) and the Knives Out series.

'Full Metal Jacket' and 'The Shining'. I'm not a Kubric fanboy or anything but when I do like his films, I really like them. 'The Shining' is a masterpiece in horror, hence my natural affinity towards it and 'Full Metal Jacket' is one of the most thought provoking films I've ever seen. On the surface it looks like just military jargon, but it's military jargon with much thought provoking characteristics. 'Saving Private Ryan' is also a great film and one of my favorites and Stephen Spielberg took much inspiration from 'Full Metal Jacket' for that film.
Full Metal Jacket really surprised me the first time I watched it. It feels like there's a lot more going on beneath the surface than you'd expect.

Obsession- it's as good as they say. I friggin loved this movie and how uncomfortable it makes you feel and all of its subliminal messages.

Backrooms- Also found myself really loving this movie as well. The ending got a little questionable and the design choice for the final monster was... interesting. But I did really enjoy the story they set out to tell and how unsettling the movie felt. By far my favorite video game adaptation.

While I do agree Daniel Craig is one of the best Bonds to date, I also think their changing the formula to more grit and realism and away from the corny comedy stuff made as much if not more an impact on me.

For what I've been watching lately, I'm a fair ways into the Marshals TV show, which is not as good as any of the other Yellowstone related shows, but Luke Grimes somehow manages to carry it pretty well anyway. I just started watching Dutton Ranch, which is much better IMO and closer to Yellowstone content. Rip and Beth were two of the best characters on Yellowstone, so they were bound to get their own spinoff.

Movie wise, I haven't seen anything worth mentioning since Avatar Fire and Ash. I'll soon be watching Lee Cronin's The Mummy, but I'm not sure I'll like this new take on it.
