The website is now hosted by Vultr (previously TotalChoice Hosting)

Hi all,

I'm really thrilled to make the very geeky announcement that this site is now hosted by the very brilliant . We've been with TotalChoice Hosting for almost two decades and they've been pretty solid for the most part, but I'm certain that this move to Vultr is a big step up.

This doesn't affect website ownership at all, merely that the website is powered (probably a more appropriate verb available but that's the best I've got) by a new company and your experience should be improved by way of faster load times and increased site uptime and reliability.

Any questions - shoot!

I like the new look, and it seems to be working flawlessly. Thanks for the hard work Steve. I really don't get why since the make over, the place seems void of activity. Can anyone explain this to me, I mean you know, rationally?

Pretty sure it's not the make over. This place just goes quiet occasionally.

Yeah but there's not even any comments on the new look, or some of the new SH horror games that just came out, like TLoU Part I, which does strike me as odd.

Whatever, I just feel a LOT of good forums have gone away, and the choices where to chat are slim anymore. If these sites don't get used, they may fade away forever.

That's true, but overall posting is at an all-time low, it feels like. The forum sections for both RE2R, RE3R and Village has almost 100 threads each whereas the RE4R section has 8 threads only.

Even forums like what are you playing, and what are you watching are dying out too. There just seems to be less of a community feel anymore.

Who cares? The last thing we need is a bunch of Twitter robot refugee accounts spamming the forum, I like it like this, feels more authentic.

I agree with this overall sentiment, but I also do wish the place was more active. Even back when I joined, this place was the least active of the three forums I visited, but I did enjoy the overall sense of community here despite the slew of bad apples that came around here. Though, I'm sure some people consider me one of them as well. But I've always tried pushing for more discussion that wasn't strictly Resident Evil around here as I felt that's something this place kind of lacked compared to other forums. The people that come around here don't really seem interested in much else outside of Resident Evil, and there's so few of us as it is that it's unlikely any of our interests match up from person to person like on more active forums. I appreciate the people that have stuck around and keep returning despite these long droughts. But I gotta admit, the lack of activity has certainly made me unmotivated to post like I used to when I know not many people are even gonna be reading it or responding to it.

Good points. The issue I have though with "discussing other things unrelated to the website name" is that based off of my experience these discussions usually just devolves into some really dumb discussions about anime and how superior Western culture is. Yes, I myself live reasonably comfortable in a Western country but discussing things like which big league sports team/player is the best or some docket on how The Constitution works honestly just bores the Hell out of me. Surely there's more interesting things to discuss because I would rather discuss 'Resident Evil' than the other crap I normally run into.:)

I meant more in terms of gaming and pop culture. Of the three forums I used to visit frequently, this was the only one where people didn't really seem to have or at least care to discuss other video game franchises they were fans of or upcoming movies or TV shows, events, etc. I know the Zelda forum I go to obviously has a larger overlap with Nintendo fans/gamers, so they can talk about anything gaming related without ever having to bring up Zelda. The community there is a lot smaller now, but the people there are genuinely good friends and can talk about almost anything really.

The other one on the other hand has become a right wing political echo chamber for middle aged men who act like children and would rather talk about the woke boogeyman than any actual topic. Lack of moderation and spineless leadership has driven most of the members away and all that's left is a bunch of homophobic and racist people who swear they're not despite their actions showing otherwise. But it used to be thriving with discussion outside of its namesake, and honestly, that was probably the most active part of the forum.

You can only talk about the same thing for so long without running out of things to say and it's probably why people don't stick around here long after they join. There's nothing left to say or anyone around to relate to. I had suggested to Steve to put up a general gaming discussion sub forum to separate it from the general discussion, and yet people still create Resident Evil threads there and vanish afterwards.

Out of all the English-speaking forums I visit, I enjoy this one the most simply because people here are overall pretty neutral and aren't trying to apply their own opinions and beliefs onto you. In that sense you can be yourself here and still receive the same treatment as everyone else, whereas in other forums the most active members have formed their own set of rules of what is considered "accepted" and if you don't play by their rules you'll get called out by everyone. They live in a bubble.

When it comes to discussions outside of the main focus (in our case Resident Evil) I feel like that's a double-edged sword. Some off-topic discussions can be fun, for sure, but what pulls me to specific forums is the golden opportunity to discuss a certain subject with people who have a similar, deeper knowledge in said subject.
