Modern Sonic, Dreamcast Era, and Classic Sonic all have their differences...I think each are great in their own right...I mean...
Classic Sonic
Sonic the Hedgehog-Introduced us to our blue dude with a tude and made it a lot like Mario, but twice as fast paced...
Sonic the Hedgehog 2-We met Tails...One of the coolest and most popular Sonic characters to date...Plus, Super Sonic...
Sonic the Hedgehog 3-We meet Knuckles...Another of the most popular, and we first get a bad guy impression from him...Then we realize there is more to him that meets the eye...
Sonic CD-We meet Amy, the last of the heroes to make the MAIN Sonic cast of heroes...Also, Metal Sonic and the notion of having three different versions of the same level in one level..A past, present, and future version of the levels...

Dreamcast Era
Sonic Adventure-The first game in the Adventure Series, that introduced two more heroes. Gamma and Big the Cat...It had a VERY extensive storyline with six different playable characters...Seven including Super Sonic...Massive mini games, and of course...The chao garden...
Sonic Adventure 2-The second game in the Adventure Series that introduced yet 2 MORE characters...Shadow the Hedghog, another fan favorite, and Rouge the Bat...This was the first time you ever got to play as Dr. Robotonik...Plus, you chose two separate stories going on at once...Heroes and Villains...
Sonic Heroes-Granted, not on the Dreamcast system, but still considered part of that era...It offered the most unique style of gameplay of any Sonic game to date...It included the new character Omega, Gamma's "younger brother" in a sense...Also, brought Team Chaotix out of obscurity, having only been in one previous game starring Knuckles called "Knuckles Chaotix" Also marks the first appearance of Metal Sonic since Sonic CD...

Did you play Sonic 3D Blast, Knuckles Chaotix, Sonic R, Sonic Spinball, or the Sonic Advance series

I did...But those are considered outside the main cannon...I was just listing the main games...Sonic R is among my favorite of Sonic games actually...

I used to have the Sonic Gems Collection on ps2. That had Sonic CD, Sonic R, Sonic the Fighters and a bunch of Game Gear games. I had never played any of them before so that was a nice little collection.

Lol I remember playing Sonic 3D, Sonic Spinball & Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine on the Sega Mega Drive, man that was years ago hehe. Nice games though.

The miscellaneous ones were fun. Sonic R a classic that had some very catchy music.

Oh I agree the miscellaneous ones were fun...Sonic R was pretty much ALL 90's dance style music, my favorite kind of music...However, when talking about the different eras of Sonic, mostly the Main Cannon are what's being implied...

I consider myself a old school Sonic fan a bit more. Two and three are just too good. No Sonic game to date has surpassed either of them to me. But I've yet to play Generations and I heard that was great.

Generations was PERFECT...If I didn't have the memories I have with Sonic Adventure, Generations would be the best Sonic game out there...It's got a decent length story mode, but LOTS of extra stuff to do...All in all...Try it asap my man...

The worst...Hmm...I gotta say...3D Blast...I just wasn't a fan of it...But Sonic and the Secret Rings wasn't the greatest either...But it's multiplayer was fun as hell...Not gonna lie...I still haven't tried Sonic and the Black Knight, or Sonic Colors yet...

Did you ever play Sonic Rush? The one with Blaze the Cat...It was pretty freakin sweet...It was for the DS exclusively, and controlled like a Classic Era Sonic game...

I'd prob go with Sonic 3D as the worst too. I mean compared to the rest of the sonic games, the pace is too slow, the soundtrack is forgettable and it's just not as good overall.

I never played any of the sonic games on wii but I did play colors on ds (kinda wish I didn't sell my wii now so I could try out the wii version of colors). Another game I have yet to play is Sonic (2006). Is it really as bad as everyone says?

Nope, I want to. The art style of the game looks cool.

I heard Sonic Colors was pretty good. It earned good reviews. As for Sonic 06 its a love or hate thing. Some enjoyed it for what it was even though it is buggy as hell.

I'll sum up Sonic '06 for ya...The story is GREAT, and Sonic and Shadow are amazing as always...However, Silver, the new character, is just AWFUL...He's annoying and kinda douchey...But at the same time, he is an important part of the story so he's not ALL bad...

Actually, I really enjoyed Sonic Riders...I just can't speak for the sequels...It had LOTS of cool characters and loads of replay value, and for a racing game, the story was actually pretty good...Much better than any story coming form Mario Kart...

I've recently found out, Sonic Riders is actually also considered part of the main cannon...I'm just not sure which era it fits into...I guess it would be the Modern, even though it's different than most modern Sonic games...

Nope...Not Spin Offs...All three of them are cannon...Which really makes me wanna try the second and third lol...
