After so many years of having continuous releases for Resident Evil games, we have reached a strange point in time - The so-called mysterious silence, where we are currently experiencing the longest absense of both released games and announcements. We have absolutely nothing, nada.

Let's break it down.

2016: Resident Evil 7 announced at E3.
2017: Resident Evil 7 released.
2018: Resident Evil 2 remake announced at E3.
2019: Resident Evil 2 remake released. Resident Evil 3 remake announced.
2020: Resident Evil 3 remake released. Resident Evil Village announced.
2021: Resident Evil Village released.
2022: Resident Evil 4 remake announced.
2023: Resident Evil 4 remake released.
2024: Nothing.
2025: Nothing (so far)

I don't know how you feel, but I've personally gotten used to having something to look forward to every year when it comes to Resident Evil. But after 2024 ended with no news at all, I am feeling kind of... in a mixed position between surprised and disappointed.

Same. Rumors have made RE9's development seem like a mess. Sounds like a Resident Evil 3.5 situation, except they're keeping it very secret. I'm surprised they even did a segment confirming the game's development last year. Does lead one to believe there was some kind of delay as it was likely to have been revealed then for them to feel the need to even mention it without any proper look at the game.

Resident Evil 2, 3, and 7 were just released natively for the PS5 and now it appears the same may be happening to 0, Remake, 4, and 6. These games can already be played on modern hardware and for some reason 5 is excluded from these listings. A proper port of the original RE4 is welcome, but I don't really see the need for the rest that already look and run well unless they're planning on adding anything and including all of 0's DLC content on disc.

Re-releasing 0 again seems like a strange move too, if they really are remaking 0. Especially with the possibility that it can release before RE9. So I wouldn't count this year out yet in terms of a new RE release. But part of me does wonder if RE9's prolonged development is why things have slowed down and why they might be prioritizing ports at the moment.

From everything I've heard about RE9, they were leaning more toward it being a bigger game. There were even some talks about it being open world, I think?

Taking that into account, I don't think it's super surprising that we haven't heard much about it.

As far as other Resident Evil news, like another remake, I would think they're waiting on 9 to be released. They got the major player as far as projected profits go for remakes out of the way when they released 4. They're more than likely betting that, with the mixed feelings about CV and 0, 9 will be more profitable than a remake of either of those.
