Saw the director’s comments on some ign article. He doesn't seem interested in telling the story of Raccoon City since the games have already told them. In the same breath, he emphasizes that the movie will feature the protagonist’s journey sort of mirroring that of the experience you have playing the games, resource management, subtle power creep, "survival horror".
Just really hack-y stuff. I’m not excited at all for this. And the comments I’ve seen defending the director are just plain goofy and revealing. There’s a lot of perspectives to tell the story of Raccoon City from so the whole "the games already told the story" angle is just plain ignorance since a movie would be able to dive into deeper aspects of the events better than the games themselves could.
