I'm new here and glad to know this forum is still active.
Just to share that I've managed to get resident evil 1 to work on my Windows 8 pc.
If you guys are interested, I've made a video tutorial on how to fix it at youtube.

PS: I'm not a resident evil fan, but i'd like you guys to play them forever
