Resident Evil 2 (2019) How did Marvin receive his injury?

Kinda curious how he got it since its around his rib area which would be a odd place to get bit.

Also does anyone else think Leon/Claire shouldve ended his suffering before he turned or have him end his own life? I know suicide isnt easy to contemplate but in a situation with no other options other than reanimation i doubt anyone would blame him.

also, he was determined to help everybody that he encountered while still alive, so suicide was out of the question
