Game and Gamestation to close?

APV

Wait, Who stole me Haggis?
I recently heard that Game and Gamestation may have to be placed into voluntary administration as they cant afford to raise something like £140,000,000 needed to keep it going as many games companies such as CAPCOM, Rockstar and a few others have pulled out from supplying the eagerly awaited new titles.

It has also been claimed that they may have to sacrifice Gamestation (Bar a few shops who do well worldwide) to keep Game running for a little while longer with the loss of hundreds of jobs worldwide!

Sadly I Do See The End Of Street Level Game Stores Eventually. I Am A Collector Myself So I Like To Have Box Art And Manuals With My Games But The Same Time I Recognize That Those Things Cost Game Developers Money Ergo Lowering Their Profit Margin. It's Cheaper To Just Put Out A Digital Copy Instead Of Hiring Someone To Make The Manuals, The Box Art And So Forth When You Could Just Have The Game And Be Done With It. In The End It's All About The Profit Margin, I Just Wish The Could Have A PDF Document Or Something Of That Nature To Where Collectors Such As Myself Could Have It.

I totally agree with you, i also am a collector but of just games and my local Gamestation is fantastic for acquiring pre owned and even new unsold PS1 and 2 games but if they close ill be forced to buy from eBay which is totally useless because you cant see the state of disks and cases before you buy!

It's An Old PS1 Game Called Tecmo's Deception. It Was One Of Their Few Forays Into Something Other Than Sports. I Have Been Looking For Years.

Dat's Da One But I No Longer Have A Credit Card And My Funds Are Being Channeled Into Other Things Right Now. I Will Have To Get A Copy Soon Though.

It's on PSN. I know that doesn't really help with collecting box art and manuals and stuff but, should you ever get a PS3, the game's there. :)

I Love You, I Now Have A Greater Reason To Get A PS3. This Game Was Just Amazing To Me When I First Saw It. It Was One Of The First Games That Taught Me About Strategy And Placement And How Important They Are.

I hear both of you...I don't collect any games other than RE, but I understand completely cause as a musician I collect CD's Records, and cassettes...My most prized is Billy Idol's album Cyberpunk, and I have it on both CD and Cassette with artwork, disk, and everything...It's just not a collectors Item if it's digital...I hate downloading games and music because to me it takes away from...something...Idk what it is, but if I'm actually willing to go out and PAY for a hard copy (Which is rare) then it MUST be good...I don't often spend money on luxuries, but if I'm going to I want to be able to put it on display so to speak...I couldn't find RE2 at ANY of my local gamestores (And where I lived we had nine cause I lived in a big city) so I was pretty much FORCED to download it...And it really did suck...I had the entire series of RE games AND most spin offs, but was missing one of the most crucial RE games...Only to have it on a PS3 hard drive...Idk, but it's just kind of annoying to me...And it isn't the same...I have a perfect condition Final Fantasy VII with the booklet and map and everything...Even though I like FFVIII better it's still a collectors item I take pride in...And paying nearly 40 dollars and having the hard copy was worth more than the 10 dollars on PSN...

Sooner they close the better.

The gamestations here are total rip off's, and their staff need to take classes in customer service / hygiene

GAME are in Administration. Apparently the company is worthless.
If the company can't be saved (ie bought by someone else) by monday, they'll close their Gamestation stores to maybe buy more time.

I like Game, never bought from Gamestation, and I will only buy from eBay unless I HAVE TO.
Although, I've now found a site slightly cheaper than Game for new releases.

I haven't bought from game since catherine was released (that took ages to arrive), because the administration thing could've happened at anytime... and now it has.

I just use amazon and ebay to buy my games/cds/dvds. Much better that way i think.
If You Are Buying New Stuff Yeah I Don't See A Problem, But If You Are Looking For An Old Game That Is Out Of Print And Have To Buy Used Then It Gets Iffy.

I've learned to start looking about for old games because as was said it does become iffy because you can never know the condition but at least certain collectible items are still available because you can always find something good. I mean i just bought this online! Its not real just an airsoft but beautiful none the less!

Not to mention how much stuff goes for on those sites. I won't lie, I've bought from amazon before. I bought Cool Boaders 2 and Nemesis there and I love both of my copies, they came to me exactly as described and fairly inexpensive but if you're getting something that was popular in the day, it'll run you a pretty penny. (Which is why I went to PSN for CastleVania: Symphony of the Night; I so wasn't paying a hundred dollars for a video game.)

I rarely use the internet...Check local game stores...And I don't mean the town Gamestop or something...I mean locally owned homegrown game stores with self-employed owners and stuff like that...Even if they don't have what you're looking for, they're not a corporation, and they have friends with similar stores...They will, in my experience, more often than not get in contact with a buddy of theirs to help you out...They actually care...I have a friend who was able to get the ORIGINAL Final Fantasy...The very first FF game, in good (Not perfect but good) condition for a good $40 less than amazon had it selling for...Amazon has ALWAYS been a rip-off...Ebay is about fifty fifty...Craigslist is ALWAYS good price wise, but odds of them having what you're looking for are NOT good...

I have to use the internet. We don't have any type of game store in the town where i live :( (we do have a cash generator, but they've mostly got copies of Modern Warfare and Battlefield 3.)
