REmake enthusiast
let's talk about movies. do you like them? what genres are you into? do you have a favorite flick? actress/actor? director? top 3? 5? 10?

i suppose i'll start. i love movies (obviously). i collect VHS, i'll always take those over DVD if i can get my hands on it. i'll watch pretty much anything as long as it's good (very subjective, i know), but i really take a liking to dramas of the political and/or philosophical persuasion. my favorite directors are stanley kubrick & ingmar bergman. my favorite movie is brother, a post soviet russian gangster flick. my top 5, in no real order;

1.) brother
2.) la haine
3.) nosferatu 1979
4.) the thing
5.) the seventh seal
honorable mention - mephisto

how about you?

I like the 80's action heroes, such as Arnold Schwarzenegger, Sylvester Stallone, Bruce Willis, Van Damme, etc.
My favourite genre is comedy, and in that genre I like Eddie Murphy and Jim Carrey alot, almost everything they do makes me lol.

I'm an avid movie watcher, and I love Comedies, 80's Action, and Superhero movies, but I have a real soft spot for Romantic movies...

My favorite directors are easily Kevin Smith and Sam Raimi, but I also have to give props to Steven Spielberg and George Lucas. I'm among a minority of film fans that think that Quentin Tarantino is VERY overrated, and rather untalented.

When it comes to writers, there are SO many, but Joss Whedon is DEFINITELY up there...

My favorite actors are Will Smith, Harrison Ford, Bruce Willis, Vic Mignogna, and Jack Black.

Favorite movies in no particular order are:

5. Spider-Man or Guardians of the Galaxy
4. While You Were Sleeping
3. Men in Black
2. A Cinderella Story
1. Star Wars: Return of the Jedi

I love horror. While I will watch alot of horror movies, I've recently gotten into the older ones. (pre 70s) I don't watch movies that much anymore, but I do occasionally.

Top 5 movies
1. The Shining
2. Child's Play
3. Scream
4. Silent Hill
5. The Matrix (Did I mention my love for philosophy?)

My favorite actors are Jodelle Ferland, Jack Nicholson, and . . . probably Norman Reedus

As for directors, hands down, Wes Craven.

And finally screenplay writers. I love Romero, (No, not the one on the forum. Sorry, but I've seen "Those" Movies) and Akira Toriyama.

oh jeez, the shining is so good. that was the first kubrick movie i saw, and it really disturbed me. which is what i think is most important criteria to anything selling itself as horror.
also, you say you like philosophy, and i know you're an anime fan (you should know where i'm going with this)..do you ever mess with ghost in the shell?

I have not yet. My friend Beni has told me that I would like it, but I'll probably watch it one day while I'm at his house.
But yeah The Shining did just about everything right. One of the reasons I love it so much, is the way it shows what seclusion and your past can do to you. Once you finally break away from society, and have to deal with yourself. It's beautiful.

have you ever seen room 237? it's a documentary that came out a couple years ago expressing different theories on the shining. some of them are a little wild imo but if you're a fan it's well worth seeing.

I started to, but something came up, I don't remember what, but I had to leave and completely forgot about.

My favorite film genres would be crime/gangster (I like both on the same level), sci-fi, action, thrillers, war, animation (Especially if it's by Disney, Pixar, Dreamworks, and Studio Ghibli), dramas (Depends on what the draa is about.), and documentaries (Especially if it's about World War I, World War II, or animals.). I'm also especially enticed by films that involve a lot of mystery, use found-footage style of filming, includes aliens, technology, and a lot of the little things that I like (Can't really explain them.). I am also a sucker for movies that take a famous person and re-writes important parts of their lives to something that you know did not happen (Like The Raven and Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter. These 2 are guilty pleasures for me just because they take 2 well known figures, Edgar Allen Poe and obviously Abraham Lincoln, and rewrites their lives having Poe trying to figure out who a killer is who is using his poems for their murders and Abraham Lincoln obviously slaying vampires.).

As for movie genres I don't like, I don't like musicals, romances, sports, and comedies. I'm not saying that I hate every film in these genres, because there are some musicals I do like and of course I do love some comedies, it's just that I'm not a big fan of these genres. In musicals if I don't like the music then I will have to go through the whole film listening to music that will either bore me or is making my ears, and possibly eyes, bleed uncontrollably and painfully. Not a fan of romances because I find a lot of them either so stupid that wouldn't work out for a real relationship, that and I'm just not into them. I don't like sport movies because I don't like sports simple as that, I do enjoy eSports, but there are no eSport movies (The Wizard doesn't count as an eSports movie. That movie is more about adventure than eSports.), there is supposedly one coming out, but it's documentary so that won't count. And I love a lot of comedy movies, but for every awesome and hilarious comedy I watch, there is going to be 100 painfully unfunny, insensitive, boring, and lame comedies that may or may not cater to a bunch of 10 year olds or immature teenagers. Also while this ain't a genre, I'm going to also get out that I don't care for Disney sequels. Out of all the Disney sequels, I only like 1 of them, the rest were un-needed or were just really awful.

As for my favorite movies, I don't have a favorite, but I do have a list of films I do consider my favorites. Some of my favorites are Gravity, Side Effects, The Matrix, Disney Nature's Bears, a good majority of Disney animated films, Kung-Fu Panda and Kung-Fu Panda 2, Battle Royale, Lincoln, Ted, Saving Private Ryan, Casino Royale (2006), Chronicle, The Matrix movies, the Paranormal Activity movies, End of Watch, Looper, Ed Wood, Ghost in the Shell, Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence, Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex: Solid State Society, just to name a few.

And as for films that I really hate. Ulli Lommel's Black Dahlia, White Chicks, all of the Movie movies, and possibly the one that I hate the most is ATM (To sum this movie up as easily as possible, it's stupid, all the characters are morons, sshould've ended within just a few minutes due to all the circumstances, but it is dragged out for way to long and literally nothing happens for a majority of the film.).

As for my favorite directors and actors, I don't have any.

Akira Toriyama is God...

if you enjoy gangster flicks, may i recommend; brother, bob le flambeur, le cercle rouge, pale flower, and blast of silence!
I can try to watch them. The biggest problem is that I'm currently limited to only Netflix, Hulu, and Crackle (I can probably find them for $5 if I can.). So far I've only tried Netflix and they didn't have any of them, but I'll check Hulu and Crackle soon (It'll be a while before I can. Long story short, trying to go pro on a game competitively before the competitive season for that game ends and I only have a month or two left before the season ends so I got to put a lot of time in to get to make it as a pro and once reached then I have to maintain my position in the rankings.). Out of those 4 movies, the one that I want to watch the most is Brother, I don't know which Brother film you're talking about between the Russian film and the Japanese film, but I'm assuming it's the Japanese one and if it is then I'm dying to watch to it just because of Takeshi Kitano, I loved his performance in Battle Royale and I heard that his films Outrage and Beyond Outrage. But if you're talking about the Russian film, then I'm excited to watch that too because I've read a short synopsis of it and it makes me want to watch it as well.

my favorite movie has to be from dusk till dawn

i noticed someone wrote something nasty about ulli lommel, well i can deffinatly understand that
his movie dungeon girl was the most boring film i ever attemped to see

no, i was actually talking about the russian film, i'm not aware of the japanese one but it sounds good. my favorite japanese gangster flick is pale flower, from what i've seen. also, good luck in the competitve scene my friend! what game do you play? i play capcom fighting games (namely USF4 & UMvC3) in tournaments myself

Ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooh...I still want to watch it :).

Thanks :). As for the game I'm trying to be competitive in, it's not a fighter (Or even a shooter), it would be League of Legends. I won't go into details about it, how the system works, and how the competitive scene works for it along with many other MOBAs, but I'm just going to say that the competitive scene on that game is a complete nightmare mainly because of the awful community (All MOBA games have awful communities. They are cruel, rude, and some of the meanest players you'll ever not want to see. Apparently the bad part of the communities for MOBA games are not as large as the good part, but even then, it's still a lot especially with LoL.). And as for tournaments, if I don't count LAN tournaments and only count official tournaments, my chances of getting into one is slim.

yeah i'm familiar with league. a lot of FGC heads play it, including most of my friends.
It's one of my favorite games of all time, I love almost everything about it (Except for the servers. Something always happens on the NA servers, EU or at least EUW is busted.), and I think I've poured about $400 into it. And I just found out that I'm really close to going Pro. I need to at least Gold V on Ranked to be considered a Pro and I made it in to Silver IV (Basically if I can get promoted 4 times then I get into Gold V.). If I can make it to Diamond I or Challenger then I think I'll consider entering some tournaments (That is if I can join a team. And more than likely I'll have to be in Challenger rather than Diamond I to get into a tournament.).
