Resident Evil live actions movies are getting a 6 film reboot

This kinda goes back to the other thread about a dream director for said reboot.

Anyway, of course it's the same production company, they hold the rights. I'm pretty sure they also financed the CG movies, though I only have vague memory to back that up.

The films deteriorated more and more with every entree and they are practically each their own isolated thing with just a bit of a few common elements to glue any form of continuity. Any film could've ended with Alice at the center of the Earth branch of Umbrella and the next movie starts with "My name is Alice and I'm in outer space" the way any ending connected to any other. It also doesn't help that the movies have an odd naming convention, as in there really isn't any; you could've watch them in any random order and if weren't paying attention you wouldn't have known the difference.

Anyway. Hopefully the next film will be a bit more faithful, I guess.

Wait seriously? I am stunned that they are gonna give it another go. We can only pray that it would be decent...

Well, let's look at the bright side of things: At least it can't get any worse...
You just had to say it, didn't you? Any other quick phrases to ensure a terminal status? Maybe you want to remind us all about that farm the movie just bought since it's retiring from the force in 2 days?

Are you saying I jinxed it? Maybe there's still hope, now that we know who is going to write the script:

James Wan was the director of The Conjuring, Insidious, and Saw. I've never seen those movies, but a quick research reveals that they're apparently pretty decent. (Well, except Saw, I've heard of that one and wouldn't want the upcoming RE movies to be anything like it.) Anyway, I think we can expect the reboot to focus more on horror than action this time.

GASP! I love James Wan! His movies are so good.

Meh. Can't say I'm excited. I loved the SAW movies and while he's proved to be a good horror director with Insidious and The Conjuring, that doesn't mean everything is going to be fine. Sure, it might actually be a horror film now, but the cast, characters, and story can still very much break the film. Yeah, yeah, it can't be worse than the previous movies, but I actually want this to work and be great, so I'm not gonna settle with just being better than the Anderson films by default.

James Wann is great. Anyone who's seen either Conjuring film (especially 2) or Dead Silence (scariest movie I've ever seen in my life) knows that that guy knows horror through and through. He's the best horror director this side of Wes Craven (R.I.P.) and knows the ins and outs of making a scary horror film. Now just get Guillermo Del Toro onboard to direct it and we're already off to an amazing start for this new series of Resi films. GDT directing and Wann writing? Holy sh!t. Talk about the perfect horror film tag team.

I'm hoping the first film follows the Spencer Mansion just like in the first game (which there's a good chance it will).

James Wan as producer is a good start. It's indicative of a focus on horror for the film. Personally I still want a classic director at the helm, someone like Romero or Carpenter. The other thing I want to know is who the characters are going to be. Are they new? Returning? Maybe they'll go for an re7 vibe rather than classic zombies.

This is great news. He can do great horror films as well as awesome action scenes as he displayed with Fast and the Furious 7. Though he's only producing. Gregg Russo is the director and he's a bit of a unknown wild card. No, he's not one of the Russo bro's who was behind Winter Solider and Civil War of the Captain American films.... sadly.

I'm of two minds, on one hand I want to do a backflip.. but I'm thinking that if they don't start off this new saga from scratch with a full on R rated adaptation of the first game... I'm going to have to break some stuff.

I loved the original Saw movie, it was stupid to drag the series on with 10 movies though.

Already committing to 6 films... Anyway seeing that Wan will be involved has me very optimistic, I hope they feature the actual characters from the game.

It was actually 7 movies (and they're coming out with an 8th later this year after a long hiatus, believe it or not), but I definitely see your point.

Anyway, since they're already committed to 6 films, I assume they have the entire premise of all 6 films already planned out from the get-go. Like I said earlier, I hope the first movie focuses on the Spencer Mansion. And actually follows the premise of the first game.

Well, the first movie was good. It was clever and the plot twist was kinda genius. The problem with Saw, though, are all it's sequels. They deteriorated into a show case of human stupidity. Lemmings have a stronger survival instinct than the people in the sequels. I don't know what Wan's involvement is in everything after 1 but the first one was good so it's not a bad thing in my eyes.

Edit: You know, it just occurred to me. Maybe this is why the last RE film is such a mess. I haven't seen it but I've seen enough reviews. It sounded to me like the movie was trimmed down from the way the movie was described. I think maybe the movie was rushed. Once Sony made the decision to reboot the Final Chapter was no longer as big a priority as it was before the film started production, that or they had a contract with Anderson or something else entirely but bottom line the movie was rushed or trimmed to make way for the reboot.
