So I've heard that the madhouse difficulty is pretty tough.
Apparently Jack stalks you non stop for like the first half of the game

I haven't tried madhouse yet. Just went back on normal to get some of the stuff I missed on my first playthrough.
I somehow managed to miss both of the weapon repair kits and annoyingly only had 3 files left to get when I beat the game :(

So how many of u have tried madhouse and what did u think of it? And also any tips? :p

Madhouse difficulty is definitely an experience, haha. It's very challenging but I like it for that. I wouldn't say it's as difficult as RE5 Professional mode so far, though. And yeah, Jack is quite a constant presence after the dining scene, pretty much until you get to the garden. I'm currently up to the part just before you fight Jack in his mutated form.

You certainly need to be guarding whenever you get hit if you can, because that reduces damage. The boss enemies are faster too, so you have to bear that in mind when fighting them. Also, flame rounds in the grenade launcher worked for me in Lucas' barn area... That part is definitely interesting, haha.

I don't want to go into too much detail since I think it should be experienced pretty blind for added surprise. But one thing I would definitely say is make sure you sort your inventory out before using a cassette to save. That'll save you time because frankly, you're probably going to die quite a few times and there are very few autosave points. Also, use your cassettes fairly sparingly. They give you enough of them but you can't be overly frivolous with them. (Isn't it funny how a game that has smart watches uses cassettes and video tapes? :p)

Weirdly I've managed fairly well with the boss fights; it's the Molded that cause me trouble, haha.

Oh, and separating agent becomes a lot more useful in this difficulty because you can get strong chem fluid to make a strong first aid med. That's what I do with my neuro rounds. Also, steroids give you a full heal as well, so that can be handy.

I'm at the tail end of the game, though I did see the end of the game on a stream and thought I'd give my thoughts so far, I'll pop it all in a spoiler tag.

Overall I think Resident Evil 7 is a great game. I love that it's more horror orientated again. It's certainly a good entry in the series, though I think it would have fitted better into the series as a side game.

As a standalone piece of art, it's wonderful and has kept me on the edge of my seat in anticipation both in my own play through and in the stream I watched of someone else playing. It's visually fantastic and I enjoy the dynamic game play.

There is a really good blend of exploration, puzzle solving and combat. There doesn't seem to be too much of just one thing. The puzzles were easier than earlier entries in the series (which seems to be a common complaint in reviews I've read) but to me they seemed to be designed to make the most of the first person view and VR experience, so with that in mind they are fine.

The horror aspects are really good. I had a couple of jumps (though given some of the online reactions and reviews I was expecting to need a change of pants to hand) there are also some parts that are perfectly gruesome. The game does a wonderful job of setting an unnerving atmosphere and I'll admit I closed my eyes going through a couple of doors.

Aside from the Bakers themselves, the simplistic approach to the enemies was interesting. I'd have liked a bit more variation (or actual zombies) but I appreciate what Capcom did with the molded. Making them very dark while lurking in small dark areas AND needing several head shots to kill them, is kind of awesome.

The Bakers are amazing foes. Their backstory and what we find out through the game is gripping.

A LOT of the game reminded me of previous Resident Evil games, which isn't a bad thing. I think the demo misrepresented the game. While I understand why the demo was presented in the way that it was, I know that it did put some people off for not feeling "Resident Evil-y". I was very aware once I'd hit the "garage" that i was playing a Resident Evil game. Much of it for me was very nostalgic and reminiscent of when I played Resident Evil 1-3 as a kid.

I really wish the game was in third person view. I'm really not a fan of first person games in general but especially not a main Resident Evil title. It's OK for shorter side games such as Resident Evil Survivor. It makes it feel a little bit out of step with the rest of the main series and dare I say, cheapens it a little.

Chunks of the story feel very open ended, which is fine and I would support a direct follow on. But I am a little apprehensive about where this leaves the story/franchise as a whole. Resident Evil already has a very complex history and I'm not sure adding a bunch of new characters etc was the best way to go for the main run of games.

Overall though, a really good game, I look forward to the DLC and whatever else Capcom has up their sleeve.

I really enjoyed the game overall. It felt like Resident Evil.

I did wonder if the creepy young girl was gonna be Natalia. If you're gonna have a girl like that why not tie it in with what you already have? Ah well.

Overall really enjoyed RE7. Ethan became very likeable and the atmosphere was great. The first person worked well enough, though i don't think il ever prefer it over the over the shoulder view but it worked well for putting you up close and personal with the atmosphere. The game was exactly what i expected, no more and no less, it didn't exceed my expectations but it didn't fall flat either. Is it my favourite? No. Remake is still my favourite old school title, and RE5 and Revelations 2 are still my favourite modern entries, and i really don't see myself still playing RE7 once in a while in 8 years time like i am RE5. In fact i don't even think 7 is in my top 5. Though i do understand that 5 & 7 are completley different beast's. Still, it was a great game but could have done with more enemy types, and a longer campaign. Also the game really struggled without the presence of characters we love and there wasn't enough of the connections to past games that Capcom promised. In Revelations 2 you could barely go 10 minutes without some reference or comment to past games. Once RE2 remake or the inevitable Revelations 3 hit, i can't really see myself coming back to RE7. Don't dislike the game, and il still play it now and again, It was better than RE6 (in most ways), but still not as good as earlier entries.

I'm loving the hell out of this game, especially in VR. The feeling of literally being there when **** jumps out life-sized at you adds a whole new level of immersion to it.

I've also been playing the hell out of the 'Nightmare' DLC. For those of you who haven't got the chance to play it yet, it's basically CoD zombies except you can actually beat it if you stay alive long enough.

I could only get to "3 hours until dawn," but man, this 'Nightmare' DLC is the new crack, I just keep coming back for more. Glad I bought the Deluxe Edition.

Ha! I just saw the thread title and I thought that it read "Resident Evil VIII (8) Confirmed"... what a scoop!

@Jen I hadn't actually noticed that. Interesting... that actually leads me to further into thinking that perhaps he isn't you know who, especially considering that...

S.T.A.R.S. were disbanded and Chris' new outfit was with the BSAA circa RE/RE6. Maybe this is Hunk up to shenanigans after all... or just a clone?

I'm still holding on to the hope that it's not actually Chris. And I really hope they don't go down the clone route again; I always think when cloning is brought in it's usually very trite and tacky.

I was just thinking: if it really is him, it would make for a HELL of a series plot twist if done right. Just sayin'.

In fact, it makes me kinda anxious to see what kind of twist of fate Capcom has cooked up to make that **** happen.

Someone was datamining (again) the new update/DLC for PC version and one thing that I guess can be confirmed: (NOT A HERO DLC SPOILER!!!)
It is the one and only Chris Redfield, not a clone or impersonator.

Going from the shooting gallery that was 4-6 back to a more SH RE is quite a drastic change.

That's a design element. That has nothing to do with the gameplay system that has stayed relatively the same throughout all the games.
