Re-watching The Curse of Chucky because the atmosphere/setting of this movie reminds me a lot of RE7's.

I find so much delight in the fact that Resident Evil 7 has been selling well so far. We might be looking at the resurgence of survival horror here, a genre that has been in obscurity for more than a decade.

In recent years, games like Outlast, Amnesia, and Alien started picking up steam, and I'm sure Capcom took note of that and realized that a return to roots for RE wouldn't be such a bad idea, and well, they gave us RE7.
There is a fan base for these games now, and that's a big positive for anyone whose last favourite survival horror game came out in the late 90's.

I'll just allow my PS4 to collect dust now as I wait for games like Evil Within 2 and a sequel to Alien: Isolation...

When u get 31/32 files and realise then, u probably forgot to read the back of one of those files

I think Claire has just started to look like REmake Jill anyway, she has the same face now. She used to have much more feminine features IMO like in Degeneration, she looks waaay different now in the games!

In my honest opinion I just think devs are trying to make stronger looking female characters and this might be a side effect of that. I've noticed this happening a lot over the past few years, they will use more manly features on women like bigger jaws and noses (I played a lot of marvel heroes and this was very prominent in the new art style for them as well)

The fact that "stronger" correlates to making women look more "manly" is stupid though really, surely it should be the character of the person and how they act, not how they look at the end of the day.

I definitely prefer older claire, and tbh older jill is like a polygon so not much to compare to, although Sienna that plays her in the movies should be a jumping off point for a new Jill IMO, she is like Fibonacci level perfect in my opinion at least.

PS: I haven't played 6 yet, although I see they used the model for the most recent movies... how come she's blonde now anyway, does wesker bleach all his crews hair or something, it must be a sub section on the contract.

Sometimes I start to not hate Ashley as much as I should. Then I remember that Claire was younger in 2 than Ashley was in 4, and that usually snaps me out of it.

May I ask why so many people are trying to measure a person's skill based on their age? Because this isn't the first time I see this. Yes, Ashley was older in RE4 than Claire in RE2, but only a year, and it's been confirmed that Claire has received combat training from her brother, whereas Ashley is the president's daughter who never leaves the house without at least two bodyguards and probably has servants for every little thing she might need - how in seven hells would she know how to defend herself against an army of pitchfork-wielding monsters? I'm older than any of the main characters were for their first adventures, yet if we ignore for a second that as the goddess of the underworld I can command the dead, I wouldn't have done nearly as well as they have because I've never been trained in that way. Unless you're comparing toddlers to adults, age does not equal survival skill.

Because I find Ashley annoying and any reason is a good reason to dislike a fictional character.

if i am gonna compare Ashley to someone i would compare her to Sherry from RE2. putting their age difference aside. nether Sherry Nor Ashley had any survival training. but in the short section you play as them they showed some potantioal for survival.

I totally get it, I do. Obviously they're two completely different people in different situations, but there are certain people who for some reason you just can't stand, and for me Ashley is one of them. I'm 19, and put in Claire's situation I'd have died in the diner. But the original intent of the post was to 1) highlight my distaste for Ashley and 2) provide an interesting piece of trivia, one that admittedly shouldn't be linked to point number one. But it is initially surprising to think about because not only does Claire's voice actress sound significantly older, she also exhibits traits of compassion and determination that are often associated with age. That's not to say I hate Ashley's character, I just hate her as a person. She is a good character. For one, her existence drives the story of 4. For someone completely lacking any formal training, she can hold her own fairly well (if and only if there's an abundance of lanterns nearby), and she's not a super soldier, a refreshing change considering even those who start out as complete novices quickly become super soldiers (see Claire, Ethan, the entire cast of outbreak, etc.), and segments where you have to tote her around break up the relative monotony of the gameplay, but I still can't stand her. She's abrasive, loud, annoying, and can't avoid an obvious trap to save her life, quite literally. Like you know how there are people who you don't like, even if a part of you knows there's not really a good reason to dislike them, but anything they do can drive you crazy? That's how I feel about Ashley.

They're actually pretty well cast, especially Chris and Sheva.

Just thinking of the mixed feelings I have for RE7... I haven't touched the game in about 3 weeks and don't feel much desire to play through it to finally beat it. I think it's because the game flatlines in terms of story and tying in to the rest of the series. They missed an opportunity of having Alex Wesker/Natalia play a crucial part in this major number title. Also maybe Zoe could have and should have been Rebecca since she looks so similar and since they want to bring back Rebecca.

I do enjoy the setting of the game and how downscaled this game is as it allows us to focus more on the characters within the game. But at the end of the day, the characters from RE7 don't progress the story of RE along (though perhaps we can say that the actual virus in RE7 does). The one thing that made me rush out to purchase this game was learning about the supposed Chris Redfield at the end, so here's hoping that the next game will focus more on him and other iconic characters who can easily progress this series along.



Also- I know this is gonna be random but I keep playing around with the idea of a more downscaled RE5 story where we would have Jill in place of Mia, Spencer in place of Eveline, Chris in place of Ethan and, of course, Wesker in place of Jack Baker. I keep thinking that the more downscaled and close encounter fights would embody the true cat and mouse fights/games between Wesker and Chris.

Be honest, bSTAR, you just want Wesker to harass Chris in a dark corner of the house and experience it all in first person. :razz: Not that I would disagree with that, just throw Jill out of the window (no dark humour intended) and have him look for Piers instead, who he thought had died on the ocean floor 3-4 years ago... And Zoe could be Ada, I'm pretty sure Chris would hate having to work with her after all her clone did to him.

But seriously, I think this could very well have worked with the Burton family instead of the Bakers.
