The puzzles need to be given more depth but at least LiN was attempting to vary the pacing and added some small degree of backtracking and exploration. Also, even if it wasn't perfectly implemented, fighting enemies indirectly with stealth, fetch quests and environmental traps was enjoyable.
RE5 was a disappointment because it was linear, had no exploration and very few puzzles, lacked slow suspenseful pacing and enemies reward you with gold and ammo when you kill them. There was no sense of mystery or vulnerability through the entire experience. You weren't surviving a nightmare...
They are different enough to warrant two scenarios in RE6, one linear/action and the other non-linear/puzzle driven. I'm not trying to label. I just recognize that RE1/2/3/CV offer a distinctly different experience than RE4/5 and that fans of either experience should be catered to by future RE...

I hope Capcom is paying attention to the suggestions of fans. I float around and check out a lot of RE forums and have seen some creative ideas. I also spend a lot of time on their official site and like to brainstorm gameplay and story concepts with people.
