Making a vegan curry using potatoes, spinach and chickpeas. Tomato based sauce, so no coconut cream or milk involved.

Did a bunch of housework as my exercise and some minor DIY too.

Still too scared to weigh myself though

Yesterday my husband and I did a mile after I got off work and then I started making the healthy enchilada recipe and he finished it. (I'm really not a good cook at all.) It was pretty good, I think I'm just iffy on the sauce. I might have him experiment next time on something different but it was good.

I am glad you followed through and made the thread for this. Not the best time for me to see this since I just sneaked a double cheeseburger from McDonalds when doing errands!

I DID stain my entire front porch and back porch this morning which was QUITE the workout. So, less food cheating tomorrow now that I know there is community support for being a good boy. haha
Yard work is ALWAYS a good workout!

Hey now, this thread isn't trying to link me to sketchy weight loss supplements.
It's weird that I can be nostalgic for spam like that.

This is a good idea for a thread. Sorry I'm late, been working a lot.

Before I go into what I'm doing, I'd like to share a little background info. Feel free to skip lol.

In recent years it has come to my attention that I have high blood pressure. When I found out, I did all the things - took all the stuff out of my diet that was canned or processed, no excess salt, all the potassium, and started going to the gym 5 days per week. None of this helped. Then Covid happened and the gyms closed.

Fast forward just a bit and I told my doctor to put me on blood pressure medicine and she also put me on a daily anti anxiety medicine because I had a panic attack in her office (heh). 3 days later my blood pressure was down 20 pts. Now, after a few months, my blood pressure is down 40 pts from where it was, regularly. My blood pressure is now ideal.

I've wanted to start working out again and so my husband and I bought a stationary bike and some weights. The blood pressure medicine complicates things though. The way it works is that it forces my heart to beat slower and with less strength. I'm not supposed to do anything that will raise my heart rate too high and I'm also not supposed to let my body temperature go up too high as it will be harder for me to regulate my body temperature.

I've worked my way up to doing a brisk cycle with low/med resistance over the past couple of weeks. Yesterday I went for 30 mins. Afterwards I do an upper body strength regimen because I have tendinitis in my elbow and it is hard to keep strength in my arms while not aggravating the tendinitis. So, while I am getting back into working out, which is awesome, I have to hold myself back. Gone are the days when I could go full speed with resistance for an hour a day.

That sucks - is there a fitness regime your doctor recommends? Or are you kinda ok with what you're limited to?

I'm back using a sacroiliac belt thanks to some really bad hip pain lately - was walking to the bank yesterday and my knees buckled with the pain. Boo pain!

But I've overhauled my diet some. So far this week I've made sure I have three proper meals and two smaller snacks to keep me from binge eating. My work lunches involve sushi, pieces of plain chicken breast and high protein, low fat Icelandic yoghurt. Dinner is nearly always vegetarian with plenty of fibre to keep me full. And breakfast alternates between eggs and porridge.

I just hope it works. Be interesting to see if my work uniform starts getting looser soon...

Well I've been doing rather decently sticking to my workouts. I think I've only skipped one day because of a migraine.

My eating habits aren't stellar all the time but at least I'm staying active, which is something I was really struggling with for a long time. (Especially after transitioning from manual labor to a desk job and then again from actually getting up and going to the office to working from home.)

My doctor didn't really talk to me about physical restrictions. I didn't find out until I googled the medications to get more familiar with it.

For now I think I'm doing well keeping myself at a leisurely pace. I do miss more rigorous workouts but I think just going through the struggle to finally finding something to lower my blood pressure (it took around 2 years or so) after just settling with the idea that I would probably die of a heart attack at a young age probably outweighs that just enough.

Oof. My experience with pretty much anything I've been prescribed. Doctors tend to prescribe things without knowing exactly how they work and then act shocked or like you're being difficult if you have side effects.

That's the thing though, I haven't really had side effects, except my hands get hot. I guess that's a symptom of low blood pressure.

Every little bit helps! Keep doing the workouts you're doing and steadily just change your eating habits one aspect at a time. You got this!

That sounds more like a boring super power XD
