Resident Evil 2 Deluxe Edition available to pre-order on Steam; DLC and PC system requirements revealed

Hot on the heels of the E3 gameplay trailer extravaganza, Capcom has already opted to launch a pre-order page for the PC version of Resident Evil 2 over on the Steam Store. Wasting no time in capitalising on the remarkably positive public reception of the game, Capcom have also seen fit to allow gamers the chance to pre-purchase not only the standard edition of the game, but also a ‘Deluxe Edition’ with various cosmetic DLC included. However, pre-purchasing Resident Evil 2 before the official launch date of January 25, 2019 will net both the standard and Deluxe Editions some additional in-game bonus items. Included below is a breakdown of how the differing DLC offerings tie into the two different editions:

Standard Edition

  • Includes the base game only

Deluxe Edition

  • Two additional outfits for Leon S. Kennedy: ‘Arklay Sheriff’ and ‘Noir’
  • Three additional outfits for Claire Redfield: ‘Military’, ‘Noir’, and ‘Elza Walker’
  • One additional weapon: Albert Wesker’s Samurai Edge
  • Ability to use the Resident Evil 2’s original official soundtrack (referred to as ‘Original Ver.’ by Capcom) in-game

Digital pre-order bonus(es)

(Available for both the Standard and Deluxe Editions when purchased on or before January 24, 2019)

  • Two additional weapons: Chris Redfield’s Samurai Edge and Jill Valentine’s Samurai Edge
  • Official wallpaper bundle

And while it would appear that Resident Evil 2 is shaping up to be among Capcom’s most graphically impressive games, it seems that Capcom has been able to fine-tune their proprietary RE Engine to a level whereby the system requirements are not too radically different from 2017’s Resident Evil 7 — a game which itself was no slouch in the graphics department. Here are the current system requirements which may be altered during the remaining 7 month development time:

Minimum system requirements

  • OS: WINDOWS 7, 8, 8.1, 10 (64-bit required)
  • Processor: Intel Core i5-4460, 2.70GHz or AMD FX-6300 or better
  • Memory: 8 GB RAM
  • Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 760 or AMD Radeon R7 260x with 2GB Video RAM
  • DirectX: Version 11

Recommended system requirements

  • OS: WINDOWS 7, 8, 8.1, 10 (64-bit required)
  • Processor: Intel Core i7-3770 or AMD FX-9590 or better
  • Memory: 8 GB RAM
  • Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 or AMD Radeon RX 480 with 3GB VRAM
  • DirectX: Version 11

Unlike Resident Evil 7’s system requirements, however, there are no notes regarding which resolution or refresh rate these requirements are targeted towards. If we’re to follow the example laid out by Resident Evil 7’s requirements, it is likely that the hardware requirements detailed above are aimed at 1080p/60 FPS. If you are intended to run the game at 1440p/60+ FPS, you will almost certainly need to be utilising current high-end graphics cards such as a GeForce GX 1070 Ti or a Radeon RX Vega 64; but for 4K/100+ FPS, it’s possible that this generation’s GTX 1080 Ti may be the only graphics card capable of such feats until Nvidia’s and AMD’s next-gen cards are released.
