The remake of the original is also my favourite. It's one of the best games I've ever played.
Other than that, I really loved Resident Evil 3 and 4.

Haven't completed most of them tbh, but I've played a decent chunk of all of them (for now :p) and I'm gonna have to go with Nemesis!

RE2 and Code V probably. I need to play more of the newer games to really choose properly. Also the first game would be my choice, only the 2nd one surpassed it so I choose that instead.. they both have aged poorly though, they were great when they came out. I like Code V for the story and level design, it felt like a proper RE game.

REmake and Zero are cool as well, I have not finished them though, and still think I would pick RE2 and Code V (ps2 version) as my 2 favourites if we're talking about when they were released.

PS: VII is looking pretty sick from the few hours I've spent on it so far and I had a quick go on Revelations 2 and liked the zapping in that, I have all the content for it so probably will play that more at the weekend.. playing the evil within and REVII right now (also REmake actually, although diving back into proper survival horror is pretty daunting tbh, I know that this game is hardcore)

Resident Evil 2 has always been my favourite. Hoping the remake does it justice.

I also especially love RE: Code Veronica (though it's been a while since I properly played this), Resident Evil 6, REmake & RE: Revelations 2.

I have to give a special mention to Resident Evil: Dead Aim. I think it's sorely underrated.

My list fluctuates a bit but a general idea of my top 5 favorites...

Edit (teehee):
1. Code Veronica
2. Revelations 2
3. REmake
4. RE5
5. RE7

I haven't even beaten RE7 yet but I am basically blown away with the way this game turned out. It is a respectable entry to the series. Honestly the fights that Ethan has with Jack are everything that I wanted the fights between Chris and Wesker to be like- personal and dangerous.

I have only done the first couple of mia confrontations so far and it felt a little on the rails.. does it get more crazy later on? I don't think I could actually die in that section, but got her with an axe anyway... really sorry if this is still classed as spoilers tho, will remove it if this is the case.

Was supposed to play tonight but I have been way too tired... watching true detective instead... I'd like an RE character like the guy from that, unorthodox detective, takes mushrooms and stuff to find answers, maybe like a one with native American decent or something would be cool.

I kind of see what you mean about the first couple confrontation but it does play like a more explorative game once it picks up.

I have seen some game play from later on and it seemed very similar to earlier RE games with the item collection and puzzle solving. Being stalked by a family member most of the time seems to add a level of urgency though.. Is there any way to know when it;s an encounter you need to shoot them, as I'd prefer to not shoot them wherever possible really as they seem to be complete bullet sponges.

If there is a way I haven't figured it out, I'm waisting so much ammo because I hate being chased. Lol

My favorites are either RE3, because of the vast amount of exploration in the Raccoon City streets instead of just the police station, and the fact that Nemesis chases you and is pretty tough to kill, making for a few times where I had to plot my next moves carefully.

Or REmake for the fantastic atmosphere, good puzzles, graphics and light fixtures that still look beautiful today, and how there were times where I had to take different routes, and avoid several routes o.o, when exploring the mansion. (Lots of zombies on one part of the mansion, crimson head, etc.)

It's been a tie between REmake and RE2 for quite a long time, with one of them always being my favourite and the other the second favourite, switching places every now and then depending on my mood. But both of them have been dethroned since the release of Revelations 2, which is now my favourite. It combines all the great aspects of the older and the newer games in the series, has a great atmosphere, story and cast of characters, my favourite villain so far, tons of replayability and the much beloved Rape Mode mini-game, which I prefer over Mercenaries. Also, said mini-game allows you to play as (almost) all recurring main characters in the series, which has never been possible before. I have a few complaints which aren't all too severe, but this game has done the impossible by being even more appealing to me than the originals, and it's safe to say that it will be very hard for any future RE to dethrone this one.

Edit: Some people have made a list, so I'll share my top 5 as well:
1. Revelations 2
2. REmake or RE2
3. The other one
4. Nemesis
5. RE6 (... yes, you read that right)
