Sorry if this has already been touched on but I didn't find anything in my skim.

Not a huge fan of the trailer but I didn't want to spoil anything by putting the extended gameplay that you can find very easily....which coincidently already has pulled me into this game. Its being created by the source of all of our nightmarish childhood memories, Shinji Mikami, with his newly (fairly recent...well 4 years ago) established studio Tango Gameworks (Owned by ZeniMax) and published by Bethesda. . . . . What a deadly combination

I figure I should bring it up in the very least to discuss how awesome the game looks. But maybe the possibility of resident evil getting back in the hands of those who SHOULD be working on it.

Side note: This is taken from Mikami's Studio Website

....and I quote

"While big game companies make huge sales, we don't want to become a studio that loses sight of what is truly interesting or worthwhile. This company is fixated on making games from the viewpoint of a creator. We are going to make a game that will make Japan proud. Tango will strive to be a company that can unify everyone's love of games around the world." ~Mikami

....pretty fantastic mission statement if you ask me, where do I sign?

okay, so with the evil within i'm on the fence at the moment, at first when it was announced i was like a giddy school girl at the thought this game would be bringing back survival horror, after the initital reveal trailers i was still excited, but recently it's been getting some slightly negative press.
it apparently comes off repetitive and the first few encounters with evil.
none the less i'll be giving it a bash

Yea i'm definitely with you there. Hopefully it isn't but atleast its got promise. Looking at the trailer and crab-walk lady on the window reminds me of the licker scene from resi 2. I'm hoping they don't get caught up in the jump scares though

Lurking is my jam.
Eh. it reminds me of Silent Hill with having a world in your head making you go crazy. To be honest Sebastian even looks like him.

And while I like Survival Horror I dislike this game since it's literally Silent Hill + Resident Evil.

IF I wanted that I can play their series respectively.

I hope this game will be good. I'll definitely give it a go, maybe it'll surprise us. The PAX East trailer looks pretty good although as Shinigami said, it does give off a bit of a Silent Hill vibe.

I've already made a few predictions/connections with this game to Resident Evil 4... or at least what was going to be RE4. So I don't really mind the familiarity at all. I've been pumped for this game since day one and the gameplay videos and trailers have all left me with a positive impression. Most, if not all of the negative feedback I've seen about this game is just plain moronic. Statements like, "I'm lost with the story in the demo" and "the character doesn't act scared so it fails at horror" are just plain idiotic. Anyway, from what was described about the game, it sounds really cool and even harkens back to REmake with the whole burning of the bodies. I'm looking forward to it.

I dislike the game for one prime reason.

It's not even original it's Silent Hill + Resident Evil more so on the Silent Hill side.
Same type of thing but with the 'scary' monsters being 1HK's which takes away the horror from the gameplay side.

I could care less nor do I really know the story besides the 'Brutal Murder'

But even I can tell those reasons are just idiotic like what company would spoil their game?
Besides activision?

The the scenery it's not very impressive. a Mental hospital that seems conveniently placed right in front of a forest?

Yeah, No

Game is disappointing to me.

Eh to each their own. I've always been sort of optimistic when games like this come out and leaving judgment until after I've played the game. But I can understand putting 60 dollars down for something you feel you've already played before isn't cool.

With that said i'd say there will definitely be some inspiration pulled from both games (and more) being that one of them was created by the creator. And I think the gameplay looks compelling enough for me to lay down 60 bucks to see if scares the **** out of me. I'm already intrigued by the prologue and interested to see where that rabbit hole goes.

to say it's a mix of resident evil and silent hill is a bit moronic in my opinion, you can basically say every game ever that attempts survival horror is a mix of the two.

and as for the mental hospital in front of a forest, that's a good setting, the game wouldnn't exactly be scary if it was if it was happy day care on a sunny day in front of a busy well manned corn field would it

I'd disagree there.

Not every Survival Horror game has B.O.W
Not Every Survival Horror game is mentally painful (Silent Hill story-wise)

The game borrows from the two but too much in my opinion.

If it isn't a Resident Evil Setting it'll be a Silent Hill setting.

I like how you think Resident Evil and Silent Hill invented settings... or even the idea of going crazy.

all survival horrors borrow certain aspects from each other, just like every other genre, and like the geez above me said, re and silent hill didnt invent those things, so it's still a silly comment to make about the evil within.

Each to his own.

That's how the game is portrayed in my mind therefore giving it a bad impression on me.

I'm always worried about resident evil future games, what if The Evil within get success and they start to make next installment for it and not for resident evil anymore. That would be my doomsday D:

Well luckily (well...not really) Capcom owns the rights to Resident Evil and ZeniMax owns the rights to The Evil Within. So you would want TEW to do well so Capcom will finally realize the money survival horror brings to the game. The ultimate scenario would be that TEW does extremely well (and is a good game naturally) so that it makes sequels and propagate the reboot of Resident Evil. I doubt they will ever stop making resident evil games :)
